Hello all... I havent had my T2i for a week yet and dropped it trying to put it around my neck. Everything thing appears to ok as I fumbled it on the way down, but the lcd is cracked and I want to get it fixed asap. I was hoping someone could refer me to a great repair service to cure this mean stomach ache I have right now. Thanks in advanced guys....

Unless you insured it, a repair or replacement will, one can only assume, be very expensive. Does it still work? If so, cover it with an adhesive screen protector to keep moisture and dirt out and continue on your way.

I was once getting out of a car with my Xsi on my lap and thought the strap was around my neck. Luckily, it only resulted in a few cosmetic scratches near the flash. Later, I switched to a hand strap (not because of this) and, as long as you hold the cam high in tight situations, I believe it's generally safer. The three-point hand strap, although requiring a little more finesse to slip on and off your hand, is more secure than the two-point one.

Thanks guys... The Canon rep that I talked to said they may cover it for free being how the camera is only a week old. (bought it on the 9th) Hopefully thats the case. And Im looking at 2-3 weeks without this bad boy.... :embarasse

Has anyone ever had a LCD replaced on their camera??? How much was it, and how long did it take?

I know this is a little to late, but, I buy 3 year warranties With Drop Protection on all my camera gear. I got one from squaretrade for $100.00 after coupon code.
It protects from any drops, spills, you name it. Plus if you want to get rid of your gear it is a major selling point.

If you break it they have 5 days to repair it or cut you a check.

Do I have to purchase the camera from them to get that insurance?

No, only a retailer that offers it. I bought a 3 year warranty as well with my camera from Square Trade ( Amazon). Now it was not against drops and spills, but it is for anything that malfunctions within the camera in three years. That extra drop and spills is about about another $80+ dollars which I currently do not have but will probably add in the future.

Sorry to read that happened to your camera, hopefully you can learn from this accident and be better prepared in the future.

If they fix it for free at canon I would try to insure it at squaretrade. You only have 30 days from the original purchase date to apply the accidental drop coverage.
You just go to their site and purchase the warranty, then it will ask you if you want to add the accidental. By using coupon codes I walked for three years for $100 with the accidental coverage.
