Couple of questions...

Is there a way to switch between shooting in standard def and hi def on the hvx?

1) I've heard that the hvx only shoots in hi def (when using a p2 card).

I only use p2 cards, so I was wondering if it only ever shoots in hi def. or if there is a way to switch between the two.

2) Is there a visible difference between shooting in Native mode than in P mode?

I have read that the only difference is that in native mode, the p2 card lasts longer and you don't get as much strobing. I don't know if that's true or not since I couldn't find any footage online showing the difference between native and P.

Does Native look any different than P after shooting or does it only have to do with how much more time you get on the p2 card?

Thanks in advance,

Nader

1. If you know how to switch between PN modes and not PN notes then you should know how to change resolutions. 480 is one of the options.

2. It shouldn't look any different to my knowledge. Just no pulldown.

On P2, you can shoot DVPro25 which is standard def. you can shoot DV to tape.

Native means, you shoot 24 (or 30) progressive frames, no interlace, no pulldown, thats why it takes less memory

but how do you physically switch it into standard def? Is that in the same menu as switching the res to 720/24PN

Sorry if that is silly, I am new to the camera and it's confusing me. I have the manual and have read through it, but there is no mention on how to change it.

To simplify...you will be shooting SD any time your record format is selected to a 480 mode. Any other mode (i.e. 720 or 1080) will be HD.

best answer. thank you very much. I realized that the link the guy abouve you gave me was just the manual...as if I haven't looked at that.

Some people...

anyway, reason why I asked was 'cause I couldn't find it in the manual.

Thanks again.

Remarks like "some people" will not do much for you in the future when you are in search of advice and help. If you had done more than just looked at the manual you would not have had to ask your question about how to switch between SD and HD. It is spelled out clearly in the manual.

Remember you came here to the forum looking for help. The answer to your question was provided.

As a new member of the forum may I suggest that you take the advice that has been provided to you in good faith and with good intentions and not react in such a juvenile manner.

Best of luck in the future.

No real disrespect Jim, but I have read the manual, and could not find it. If you are so sure that it is in the manual, then perhaps you can tell me what page it is on so that I can mark it in my book, but vaguely telling me that it is in the manual is not an answer, but more of a lazy wave in the "right direction". Thanks for your 'help'.

At least DGW had the decency to point me in the right direction. Any question could be answered by "looking in the manual". There was an obvious reason why I asked on this forum.

So don't preach to me about showing respect when you don't show me any.

Thanks!

Also, I am done with this topic so if you want to troll me then you're barking up the wrong tree.

No trolling intended- only honest help to someone who came to this forum looking for it.

Most people who are just starting out with this camera do not take the time to read the manual and instead come looking for instant answers to their problems. It's to the benefit of anyone working with this camera to read and comprehend the manual in order to be intimately familiar with and get the most out of the camera. Because changing recording formats is such a basic function of this camera it seemed obvious that referring you to the manual was prudent. It was not a slight aimed at you or meant as an insult of any kind.

Just for reference the manual talks about changing from the various HD formats to SD formats on page 107 at the top of page under Recording Setup screen.
