Could someone please tell me how "The Charl(Y)ie Factor": http://vimeo.com/10358905

lost to this: (The winner)

In the citypaper film contest? I don't mind losing if the the winning film is obviously better in some aspect. I have yet to win here and I have not made a film that deserved to win yet.

I hate to sound like a sore loser but come the Eff on! I feel some type of way about this one. I'm not saying I should have won the thing but seriously...am I wrong here?

Are you EFF'IN kidding me? That piece of sh*t won $500.00?
What a joke.
I sure hope you didn't have to pay an entrance fee....

I'm headed to the comments page to leave a piece of my mind.
Unbelievable!

WTF!?...That's not even a film!...You were robbed...maybe even raped....

Thanks Batutta. I felt raped and slapped across my face. I was furious.

Thanks Za. I was hoping it was okay to feel a slight bit of anger about this. I did not have to pay, but everyone else did. $5 bucks. The night was actually pretty cool up until they announced the winner. The runner up "Closure" was pretty bad as well.

Yeah that's pretty much a farce. Unbelievable. Somethings going on.

//Did the judges have any comments? That'd be nice to hear what their thoughts were while putting some names and faces behind it all.
Crazy world.

I ... I don't even know what to say ...

The Charl(y)ie factor was one of my favorites from the Fest... and this ... I ...

I don't use this word much, so take it with as much power as it could possibly hold. That video that won, was bullsh*t. There's no way around it.

I'm sorry man ... completely unacceptable.

Maybe you should have put the guy standing outside the house in a bear suit. Then it would have won?

But seriously... did they shoot that on a cell phone? You have every right to feel cheated out of this one.

i literally watched 20 seconds of the winner and had a OMFG and turned it off. There are a lot of reasons y certain things win festivals and other things don't. Certain theme or message a festival is trying to maintain, judges only watching very small portions of the film rather than the whole thing, and believe it or not judges see so much at times, that they tastes in films grow so divergent that it to be that their tests don't conform at all with the masses. but yeah, sorry man, your film was literally light years of head of that garbage...

You got that far? I started skipping ahead to see if there was anything creative. There wasn't.

I will say this, if one of the judges was the paper's film critic, then you should NEVER believe anything he writes again.

It's not that it was bad (well, not just that it was bad)... it just seemed lazy. Like the effort was phoned in.

You were robbed dude.

The winner is a video of two homeless guys dressed up in Lady Liberty outfits waving at cars? I don't have audio, so maybe I'm missing something?

The judges had no comment. I really wish they did. I totally think the fix was in.

I'm totally with you on the Bullsh!t thing.

LMAO! That's is what is going to happen next year.

Thank you. I just could not believe what I saw. I just left.

I feel the same way.

Looks like I've found the perfect film to review for today's F.E.D. blog entry! :D

Please do it. I would love to see that one!

I don't know about your state but here we have Liberty Tax service where people dress in those exact costumes and wave at cars as they go by holding a sign as advertisements to get their taxes done there. There was a discussion on the citypaper forum about how no one notices those lost souls that wave at cars as they go by, Which is silly because they are paid to do that. We are not supposed to stop and talk to them, we are not supposed to give them money, They are not homeless, they are employees and they are paid to wear those statue of liberty costumes and wave at cars. It's just silly and to lose to that is something that is hard for me to swallow.

Thank all of you for checking it out. And for letting me know I'm not crazy.

Normally I don't even read threads like this one. I usually think, "well, yeah, you lost, get over it. Time to move on." BUT, I remember watching The Charl(y)ie Factor and liking it so I wanted to see the winner, thinking it might be okay. Boy, was I wrong. I think you're right, the fix was in. That that won is mystifying.

Wow man. When I was reading everyone's comments, i was expecting a (albeit, bad) film of some sort.. but this, without sound, just looks like some B-Roll footage a journalst would have filmed for a story on the tea-party or something. No concept or creativity at all.

You got robbed. I'm guessing the "film-maker" had some knee pads and a contact at the paper
