Could anyone but Apple pull this off...

Just curious if anyone other than Apple could have pulled off FCPX. Yes, some feel that X was still a major screw up, but I see attitudes changing with the 10.0.3 release. I wonder if Avid or Adobe could have pulled something like this off.

hmmm...... Apple seems to have a strong cult following that always sticks by no matter what. I have a feeling this is left over from before they became the biggest company in the world. Like when they were about to go belly up. If it was Avid Or Adobe, I think, their users would have switched to the other.

I've been an apple user for years and years but never a fan boy.

I think the word your were looking for is "pissed" off, not pulled off.

Seriously, i just upgraded my old Avid dongle to the new Media Composer 6.

THAT is how you do a major rewrite of an editing app without throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

IMO, no. I don't think anyone else has that kind of loyal customers. I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing (unless you're Apple).

If what you mean is: could any NLE maker other than Apple have released an update as bad as FCP X and not gone under (whole company or NLE division)... then no. I think Apple has a weird cult-following that sticks with them no matter what and this saves their butt on many occasions.

Can you imagine how fast Avid would have gone bankrupt if they'd released MC 6 as something like FCP X? I mean, come on!

I demoed FCPX, and I kinda liked it. 5 year FCP user, but it looks like I'm switching to Premiere because I use Photoshop and After Effects. Might as well streamline the workflow. But, there's something strangely appealing about FCPX, I'll buy it too. Maybe that makes me a fanboy :)

Sony. they piss off their customers all the time and we all keep going back.

it's not all about fan boys.

We must live in alternate realities. Everyone I know jumped ship and is either back on Avid or working in Premiere.

Everyone I know is just staying at FCP7... a couple went Avid... but for the most part, FCP7 is working just fine. The true test is where Apple will be when FCP7 starts lacking important updates and falls behind. Right now, it handles everything well, because nothing moon-shattering has been released that is incompatible with it... yet.

I wish I had upgraded to 7. I still have 6. I was going to skip a generation. But... If i could get my hands on FCP7, i'd still upgrade.

I'm on FCP6 with no huge problems in my workflow. Tried Premiere 5.5 and I do use it from time to time, but I can't be budged from FCP. I've been using it for too long.

I'm still of FCP6 and unfortunately I can't blame any of my bad content on it. I'm positive I could make the same statement if I was on MC6 or PP.....
