I have 4 GH1's - all hacked, 2 PAL and 2 NTSC converted. I can't remember the setting but I was very cautious and haven't had a problem till now

I use Panasonic class 10 cards

last week I had a corrupt 16gb but was able to recover the data using a program called CardRecovery. This week I strike a problem with an 8gb card - unable to recover with a couple of different programs.

running Win 7 and using el cheapo card readers but I've not had a problem before. as son as I throw the cards in Win notes a problem and offers to scan & repair. I decline being wary of windows ability to fix anything. and try other recovery programs

anyone having a problem like this?

I think that's windows 7 bs. get the same messages with every usb stick and every lacie rugged hard drive I plug into my laptop. Just make sure you're re-formatting your cards after backing up.

I wouldn't let windows 7 touch your cards with that autofix.

If the cards themselves aren't completely unusable, it pays to backup all data on them and put them back into the cameras and do a format in camera.

Doing this every once and a while is good practice, to prevent fragmentation of data, as FAT32 (the file format that cards are written usually to) is prone to fragmentation and then data corruption. I try to do mine every 3-6 months, but I wouldn't call myself a heavy user.

I download the data from each shoot and reformat the cards ready for the next - in camera, every time - it must me something else

This is a brilliant free open source programme for recovering MTS files. It's better than anything else I've ever tried (including a couple of commercial trials) You'll be amazed at the stuff it finds on your card, even after formats.

Easy to use with a simple command line interface - basically just arrow keys for choosing the disc, and 'Y' to start the programme.

http://www.cgsecurity.org/ (you need the 'Photo Recovery' download - which, despite its name, works perfectly with AVCHD files)

Let me know how it works for you.

A few days ago I had this happen to me. I had some photos and a couple of video clips. In camera I could display the photos, but not the video clips. When I inserted the card into the either of two pc's, they could not read the card. I then connected the camera with the card to the pc using the PICT bridge interface and was able to extract the photos. Only with the PICT bridge interface was this possible. I gave up on the video clip and re-formatted the card. I now do format the card frequently... Al

Same here. Every time i connect a flash card from some other device to my Win7 machines (all of them!) i always get that message and never elect to have Windows scan....never had a problem with the data either.

My pleasure.

I discovered it accidentally, when searching for some way of recovering video of my grandson's 7th birthday party.

Somehow, the vids found their way into the all-intrusive Microsoft media player - and I promptly delted them, unaware that 'delete file from disc' was also enabled.

I tried the free German 'PC recovery' tools - without success. Then I found this app- and it brought everything back in next to no time, and also found a lot of old stuff that had survived several in-camera formats.

Needless to say, I was as pleased as a dog with two, er, bones
