This is a fairly simple inquiry, and I only post around these parts cause the Canon A1 folks are my homeboys, so I'm skipping the 35mm board.

Anyhow, as Canon lenses for EOS Digital Cameras (EF, EF-S) electronically adjust aperture, then using them on a 35mm adapter would always use the lens (that is on the 35mm adapter) wide open with no adjustments, correct? And iris control could be used on the A1?

Follow-up inquiry: Of course, one main reason people use 35mm adapters and 50mm highspeed macro/portrait lenses is to create good bokeh/depth of field blur. Do users ever narrow their iris on their 35mm lenses anyway?

I think that's all I have right now.

You are correct, the EOS lenses stay full open when used with a 35mm adapter. That's why a lot people use Nikon lenses instead, so they can have more control.

You can close the iris by pulling the lens off the DSLR body while you have the DOF preview button pressed. This works fine for film-style workflows, but not for any sort oof live coverage.

For the most part, the aerial image tends to add DOF compared to what you get on a film plane, so I've never shot anything other than wide open.

The Birger mount will address this issue as well as adding motorless FF. I can't wait.

Clever idea. I just tested it on my 30D and it made me very happy. Any reason you know of as to this (taking it off during DOF preview) being a bad idea?

so i can use my canon lense without an issue? I waited this long since i did not want to start buying nikon lenses when i have a huge stack of canon lenses.

Well, unless you consider having to use your EOS as an aperture changing device an issue, than you shouldn't have any problem.

i do not mind carrying my rebel, but holding down the DOF button is the only way out?

Can i do manual aperture adjustment then pull the lens out while the camera is turned on?
