I also just found the original thread two days ago and was quite pleased that you got your deal at pretty much exactly the same time I reached the end. I'll tell you that they read alot like some kind of fabrication or found document turned into a novel, like a blair witch of forums, though this seems too elaborate for you to have just made up. Congratulations on your achievement now hurry up and get them to start releasing DVD's as I'm sure we're all very anxious to see it. Will they let you sell them through your site before they have a complete domestic deal?
The big question I have have had as I read this forum is what is everyone's experience levels with filmmaking? I'm considering the merits of film school and wondering who had formal film training? As I feel I've sort of gotten a sense of everyone's personality reading so many of your responses over such a short period of time I'm curious as to everyone's backstories a bit.

Adam, will Corrado be available on Blu-Ray? You shot at 720p correct? I finally caught the Blu-Ray bug and would love to see your film in full quality.

There are so many pages to sort through I couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for....
Basically, how did you land a distribution deal before even finishing the movie, attending AFM, or hitting the festival circuit?
How did distributors find out about your project?
It seems to be quite an achievement to get people interested in buying/selling your film when you don't have any previous films or a big reputation. Nice job!

Bah, don't listen to Lawrie or Vic - kidders!
The movie is finished, it was finished in mid november of '08. I had many inquiries from distributors and sales agents, many of which simply called me. List your film in the trades, and you will get calls, period. Or really, you will get calls if there are name actors in your film.
I never wanted to do an AFM myself, although now that I have a sales agent, they will slog it out with the buyers at EFM (Berlin film market), and they will do a much better job than yours truly would have done with a booth all by his lonesome!

nice! so are you just going to sell it and move on to your next project or are you considering working the festival circuit?

I'm moving on; to my knowledge, Corrado won't be appearing at any festivals; I haven't sent it to any in any case. Maybe Shoreline will have a different opinion.
You have to be honest with yourself; I don't think Corrado would make a very good festival movie personally. Sure, it could get into a bunch of small regional shows but what is the value of that at the end of the day.
My next film is very much a festival movie and it's success will hinge on acceptance into large, recognized festivals so the strategy is somewhat different for that one.

Congratulations Adam! I hope you were able to get everything that you wanted, it sounds like it.
I know you are a family man so maybe travel is not so attractive to you? But if you have the people you intend to make "Red Ruination Blue" with already in your net then I guess your focus is on, if however you do not yet have them on board I think it might be smart to show up whereever "Corrado" is with a package in your back pocket to present to those PEOPLE when the "Opportuniy" (presents) itself.
Will you also produce the next one or are you considering letting someone else do it? If someone else will do it then your on, if you are going to do it again then you need to get out there and strike while the Iron is Hot, bring Tom and start shmoozing at the markets...Next Stop Berlin.

Are the details of the arrangement between shoreline and you under wraps? If you are free to disclose then it would be interesting to hear what it is they want for deliverables from you ( If you havent already stated that somewhere ) and what are they going to do for you and what do they want in return? basically whats the deal?

I will find the money and the cast and the major locations; beyond that I will have a UPM to manage the day to day stuff as far as payroll, food, location managing, etc. No more of that for me. Doing too much kills you creatively, and I did it all on Corrado.
I think I can post my deliverables list, but I did sign a non disclosure clause in my contract. Honestly, there's no mystery there. It's a standard sales agency agreement with very favorable terms. If I could tell you guys, I would in a seconf but anyone adept at googling can find out what a sales agency contract looks like.
