Coronavirus Impact III

About a month ago I worked in Austin. Most of the rental cars at Hertz had California plates. I commented about this, and was told that was because they were flooded with one-way rentals from California to Texas. Purely anecdotal, I know

Mcbob it might be a direct result Tesla, Apple, etc moving employees into the area among other factors. Unfortunately Austin has run out so many financially marginal artists and replaced them with very nice well heeled tech people, changing the town from a bohemian Cafe to an Applebee’s with lots of hipster flare. Getting second shot today.

Probably all Joe Rogan's friends. I actually know one who moved there only for that reason. We should probably not get too much deeper into this subject before another thread gets locked.

@filmguy123 be prepared for a very sore arm. Had Dose one last Sunday morning (also Pfizer) and scheduled for Dose 2 in two weeks. I understand the second dose can be more symptomatic of the flu for 5-10 hours. Ah hoping my wife and I get by with minimal discomfort. Hope you do too!!

Felt very tired the next day after my second Pfizer. Have had several friends with same reaction. First dose no noticeable effect for me. Was to exhausted to sell my dogecoin positions. Just kidding. All my disposable cash goes for classic Disney vhs tapes. Been talking them up on Reddit. Mulan to the moon.

Slightly sore at injection site, but really Not an issue, Just less energy the next day which was told by buddies wife who is a nurse that it meant it was working so it was a good thing. But who really knows.

My friends wife had her first shot Thursday while we were working. He talked to her afterwards and she (slightly dramatically and facetiously) said she may need to call an ambulance to take her to the ER, because her arm hurt so bad. Don’t know how she’s felt since then. He’s scheduled for his first on Monday. I could have gotten my first on Wednesday or Thursday, but didn’t think it was wise since I was working Thursday and then traveling on Friday for work out of town this weekend. But I should be getting my first on this coming Wednesday, now(Pfizer). The sanctioning body for a sport I cover (and work for their production arm) is organizing a vaccination clinic for everyone in and connected to it, that wants it. A lot of states and municipalities are apparently trying to do anything they can to get people to continue getting the vaccine and I’ve even seen stories of some places having too much surplus of it, now.

I even worked on a PSA a few weeks ago with a former athlete, to encourage people to get it.

California has a huge in and out migration. The "in's" move in for different reasons than the "out's" move out.

Thanks! Good to know. Any tingling with the arm, or other symptoms, or just sore after dose 1 for you?

Yeah, dose 2 doesn’t sound terribly enjoyable from what I hear.

When I had a flu shot early last November, I had a number of strange symptoms (soreness at the injection spot and really tender joints and pain in the hand of the arm that got the shot). Never had had any reaction from shots before. This Pfizer shot had a couple similar symptoms, but mostly just really sore in the arm where the injection happened (just the next day). My wife was more uncomfortable than I was with a greater area of pain in the shoulder, neck and upper back on the side of the injection. We are both OK now (6 days out). From everything we have heard, the second dose brings on extreme fatigue and, in some folks, medium flu like symptoms that can last for 10-12 hours. Here's to hoping we all get by with minimal additional effects.

One pleasurable effect was I felt an intense need to crack open a nice mid range bottle Irish whiskey after second dose. I figure someone in the development spoke some Gaelic .

A week after her first Moderna shot my daughter got an ugly, measles-like rash on her arm. I guess it's a known side effect and not cause for concern unless it happens within a few hours of the shot. Happens mostly with the Moderna shot, probably because it's a three times higher does than the Pfizer.

55 years old, two weeks out from the second Pfizer shot. Common to both shots; sore shoulder 12 hours after injection, achy finger joints. Both went away in 2 days. Second shot I noticed a loss of energy for a few days after, and a mild sore throat for about the same period. The most interesting side-effect from the second shot was a STRONG bitter taste in my mouth that came and went for five days or so. No one believed me, until I looked it up...

I can't tell you how it's changed my attitude and mood, for the positive. Doing public things with more confidence. I don't flinch and run when I hear someone cough. I would go to an event like NAB without a single concern. US CDC far too cautious about the freedom the fully vaccinated should enjoy. 20X reduction in viral load, 90-95% protection against getting Covid, 100% protection against hospitalization or death if you do get it or a variant. 94% reduction in asymptomatic cases. Simply put, you're not getting it, and if you did, you're not passing it on. You are OUT of the Covid game. Wait a minute... where have we seen those basic numbers before? Oh yeah, the vaunted n95 mask, the "gold" standard in masking. Get vaccinated and you're basically wearing an n95 mask without wearing the dammed mask.

Right now the messaging is very poor for those on the fence about getting the shots. It's "Get in line for your shot, then queue back in a new line with your mask on doing the same things you've been doing for the last year. Wait for further instructions...".

Same stands for those carrying antibodies from previous infection. As with many coronaviruses, protection lasts quite a long time.

Yeah, I totally agree. The continued precautions are A) unnecessary and B) kill the incentives for getting the vaccine.

Personally, I have no desire or intention to continue living this way and obstructing my breathing for any longer than absolutely necessary. But I've been holding off on getting the shot because I've been slammed with work ever since it opened up to my age group and I'd like to be well-rested beforehand.

Yep the shot opened up my world. I made out with the governor of Michigan and a truly disgusting carney last night. Maybe I’m sharing to much.

My wife just told me that her friends have reported abnormal menstruation following the vaccine, and there are various news reports about it as well: https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/cor...-some-report-changes-to-menstruation/2494064/

Heavy periods, light periods, intermittent spotting, post-menopausal women having periods, people on birth control that causes them not to menstruate suddenly having a heavy period. People think the vaccine may affect the uterine lining, at least temporarily.

It may be wise for women who may have more children to hold off getting it until more information comes out. You really don't want to monkey with your fertility.

FWIW, following the new official US Census, California loses 1 congressional seat.

To be expected. As mentioned from the data, the amount of people leaving California in 2020 didn't change much over previous years but because of the pandemic no one replaced them in greater numbers as usually happens.

One also has to wonder how much of these domestic migrations are boomers retiring to warm, low-tax states. which would mean that the pendulum would swing the other way proportionally over time

I'm trying to talk my California friends into migrating to Florida. Which means I have to answer some odd questions. Which leads to conversations like this :

"Do you have planes flying overhead?" -

"You mean like the passenger planes?" -

"Ya, those"

"Ya, they fly over all the time. Why?" -

"Do they make a lot of noise?"

"Sometimes they do. Those on the descend to MIA usually don't. Those taking off from MIA may if their route and altitude are such".

"Oh, that's no good. My wife is very sensitive to noises. We have Osprey flyovers all the time and she can't sleep when that happens. Her nerves are kind of fragile".

I didn't dare to respond that shutting the windows and playing classic Deep Purple concerts over a large PA system would alleviate any external noises.
