Coronavirus Economics/Finance

Is it a loan or money that needn't be repaid? If I file section C but also have a part time job am I eligible?

The $1000 does not need to be repaid. If you file section C, I believe you are eligible despite your part-time job. Applying is quick and free.

I think that work and shoots that are international in nature or can be done in various countries are going to avoid the US. Hopefully not permanently. But we have so many covid cases that Canada and Europe won't let us in. From cnn:

"US citizens have been shut out of their neighboring country to the north and a slew of nations around the world. The latest travel news affecting Americans: The European Union is considering blocking travelers from areas with severe Covid-19 outbreaks after it opens it borders on July 1.
Since the United States has more confirmed coronavirus cases than anywhere else in the world, with numbers increasing in some states each day, US travelers are unlikely to be allowed in any time soon.
"The US's chances are close to zero," an EU diplomat told CNN. "With their infection rates ... not even they can believe in that possibility."

Trump has signed an executive order extending enhanced unemployment thru Dec. 27 at an extra $400/week instead of $600. The order will probably be challenged by some constitutionalist originalist group because it's not clear that he has the authority to direct these payments. But the fact that he has made this order makes it almost 100% likely that there will be $400/week for unemployment if not $600, either by this order if not by an act of congress.

Just had a big shoot with a UK client who was flying all of the talent to here in Ca from London for next week. They saw the headlines and said, "Nope, no way in hell we are flying to California." No matter what we did to reassure them we would be
in production using safety protocols, Covid officer on set, etc. and I cannot say I blame them.

A little over two weeks ago, I was on a production driving through Texas in a rented car from Florida full of Californians. I remain unkilled, because I followed basic respiratory virus safety and I’m not 85.

Yesterday, I walk back to our building from the beach. It's over 100F in the sun and it takes me about 15 minutes to get indoors. Since I don't take the master key with me to the beach, I have to go through the security desk. The new guard points the temp gun at me and says, "I have to measure your temperature". I reply, "I live here". (we must have a lot of folks visiting in wet swimming trunks). He says, "Oh, sorry". I say, "Oh, why not. Test me".

I think he had it set in Celsius because, according to him, it came out at 37C. So, I was pretty much outdoor temperature.

If you had been walking in the sun, I'm surprised the reading wasn't higher. Unless your forehead was covered by a hat brim. Anyway, surface temperature readings are essentially pointless here; there are so many variables that can cause a reading to either miss a fever or pick up a "fever" that isn't there. You have to measure core body temperature. (And a fever isn't a super-reliable means of screening, but I won't get into that... I'm going to have to take my temperature daily as part of a self-reporting mechanism for gaining admission to the building when I start going back to my office sometime next month.)

You should've added a couple New Yorkers and someone from Seattle as long as things were rolling so smoothly...

In the last 6wks, I know one person on a vent. And one dead. 47 and 53.

It was around 10:30 AM, the sun was still in the east and low, I was walking away from it and I did have a baseball hat on. But I also spent about an hour in the water on a fairly cloudless morning.

Last week, I lost a job in London due to safety concerns. The client is going the Zoom route instead. There are very few cases now in London and I have been shooting perfectly safely with and without a COVID officer for several weeks now. This client said they wanted to 'break the mould' with this video and make something truly memorable, LOL, the twat.

just to put in a good word for new york - after a disastrous start, the pandemic is currently at low numbers in the empire state:

The value of herd immunity

No - the estimate is that only up to 25% of NYC was ever infected - not enough for herd immunity.

I think it's probably the value of a harsh lockdown followed by a slow, methodical reopening. They still don't allow indoor dining.

In NY:

"419,642– People who have tested positive for the coronavirus, as of Aug. 7

6,368,975– The number of people who have been tested for coronavirus in New York state, as of Aug. 7"

Ah, that explains it!

Says who? HIT varies by pathogen. ~30ish% isn't unheard of due to natural immunities and a myriad of other factors. Either way, it's sure acting like it's at or near HIT in the northeast... which is a good thing. IIRC that ~25% figure was from like 4 months ago, surely there were more before (uncounted because of less testing and we all know it was in the population well ahead of mid-March) and after that.

Here's a couple links to try and show you how we might not all be doomed despite 24h News' best efforts to convince us all otherwise, FWIW:

https://www.news-medical.net/news/2...ched-coronavirus-herd-immunity-threshold.aspx

https://www.usnews.com/news/health-...-covid-19-herd-immunity-be-lower-than-thought

The 25% estimate is from June 30, after New York had the vast majority of its infections to date: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cn...-with-coronavirus-dr-scott-gottlieb-says.html

The same article says 67% is the typical estimate of population exposure required for herd immunity.

The 25% only refers to New York City. The rest of the state had a lower infection rate.

Also, the 25% estimate is making a guess at how many undocumented and asymptomatic cases there were based on broad antibody tests results and also mathematical modeling of case rate to infection rate. There is no "higher than 25% for some reason" estimate in their model

New York state and especially NYC are still under greater restrictions than many places. It's not like we're doing the same thing but getting different results.

Also - if you come to NYC from out of state, you are now required to quarantine for 2 weeks or face penalties.
