C200: Core cracked the canon BP battery code!?

Wow, thanks for the heads up Rob. If these are the real deal, they cost half of what a BP-A60 does besides having the handy USB and P-Tap. Sweet! I will definitely pick up a couple.
It only took, what, about five or six years? ;-)

UPDATE:

Now that the product is out, I read some reviews - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1506755-REG/core_swx_nano_c98_14_8v_battery_with.html/qa.

It looks like the battery works as advertised when in camera. However people are reporting the battery doesn't sit well in the c200 charger (single battery). One reviewer says they have no issues at all, though they're charging with the dual charger.

This seems like such a ridiculous problem!? Anyway if the solution is picking up a dual charger as well then that's fine with me. Except pretty poor from core if they overlooked the fit on the single charger. How can they be different? Maybe core only tested with the dual charger.

I'd like to pick up four of these batteries but think I'll hold off until I have more info.

I've been using a Dolgin 4-position charger for my Canon batts since I got the original C300. Also picked up two 2-position ones for the Sony BPU style IDX batts I have for my audio bag(it was actually less expensive to get 2x 2-position's vs. 1x 4-position).

I've picked one of these up and it does not work well with my single position charger. It will charge, but only if there's pressure pushing down on the battery. I successfully charged it using a rubber band to hold it tight to the charger, then picked up one of these https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod..._pb70c15us_1_5a_single_position_powertap.html for $35 which let's me charge the Core battery AND one of my Canon batteries at the same time.

That's annoying but at least you can charge it. Any word from core?

I have a C200 w the single position charger and I wouldn't want to buy the C300 MKII charger as it's too damn big and heavy for travel. Luckily I have a pile of D-Tap chargers as well for my V-Mounts and they aren't too large but not as small as the charger you linked to.
Jeez, why does there always have to be some catch with every single damn piece of gear that we buy, own and need? There is absolutely no reason that CORE shouldn't have checked these new batteries with both Canon Chargers and made the necessary adjustments to
their design. If the BP-A30 and 60s work on both, so SHOULD the COREs!

Yeah it seems strange there’d be a difference between chargers of the same battery, especially when the canon batteries are fine with both chargers. Maybe it’s just some tiny extra/missing piece on the cores, who knows?

I agree about there always being a catch but I won’t buy anything until I hear from other suckers who bought first.

I’d bite the bullet on the dual charger if it means no stupid tricks to get it charging/use it locally, it’d also be cool to charge 3 batteries quickly I guess. Either way I’d like to hear core’s take on it all.

I will say, I have a pile of those cheap D-Tap chargers for my V-Mounts, I thought they would be borderline since they are cheap Chinese but after using them the past couple of years, they work great! No indicators
that tell you what's happening, no quick charging but I always put on the V-Mounts the night before a shoot and the next morning, everything is fully charged and works great. I think these would work fine for the
CORE's. We usually leave the C300MKII chargers at home when flying as they are pretty big and heavy but YMMV.

Response I received from core:

"On the initial batch of batteries that was manufactured and shipped a slight tolerance issue of less than 1mm was discovered in one of the pins that was causing the issue. The battery worked with no issue in the camera and on the dual charger but the single charger has communication issues. The issue has since been rectified."

Looks like we're good to go, except I'll definitely be double checking with the local dealer that it's the latest batch.

Good to know! Thanks Rob.

Does that translate to Core will replace the out-of-tolerance batteries? I’ve found that they tend to be pretty good about making things right.

This is my travel charger: https://www.amazon.com/Kastar-Charger-BP-A30-Battery-Cameras/dp/B076T8W61F

Built-in AC/DC adapter, so no stupid wall wart that takes up space and can get lost or left behind. Dolgins are every bit as massive as Canon's once you count the wall wart. And since two pieces of equipment is always worse than one, I don't know why I'd choose it over the Canon chargers. Kastar Seems to charge batteries fine, if a bit slowly. But I charge overnight so it makes no difference to me. Just in case they're negatively impacting the life of the battery I charge with the Canon charger back in the office. Though I'm not convinced that battery charging is as complicated as it sometimes is made out to be.

I'm not sure, I'd certainly want a replacement but I didn't buy any yet. The unpaid research and development team aka early adopters saved me the headache. I don't know why anyone would be in the first wave to purchase brand new film equipment anymore. Obviously certain products are more prone to issues but still. It's easy enough to wait six months and hear true feedback.

They seem like a good company though, I've always had fast and helpful responses.

I have the same. I bought it as a smaller--but dual--travel charger that would take up less space in the kit. I was worried about quality, etc. and while it is flimsy and you have to double check that the batt is seated on the contacts, it works surprisingly well--slower, but fine since it is 2 at a time.

Previously, when I shot 2 days in a row on the road, I used to worry about how to keep one batt charging throughout the day and then set my alarm for some time during the night to swap out another charging battery. This has made my life much easier.

I just picked up one of the Core batteries from B&H. It has the charging problem. It appears that it might take awhile for Core to sell through all of their defective batteries before letting us buy the ones that have been fixed.
