Cool kids stopped being cool

I’m wondering if anyone else thinks that this year celebrity stops being worth the hassle for brands and sponsors. With movies and concerts on hold and folks starting to live without the newest, hottest experience is this the slow death spiral of endorsements. Now instant boycotts and scandals will make corporations with the best vetting process more timid about who they marry their brands to. I can’t help but think the over saturation of celebrities getting exposure for doing things they didn’t become famous for will be a factor. Why do I want to go a theatre and see the new Tom Cruise when I can see him in a a three legged race with Erkel on battle of the celebrity superstars. We see them on their channel or blog doing normal mundane tasks. We see them take well thought out and considered positions on issues or the position of tantrum raging child. To paraphrase Dave Chappell do you really want Ja Rule weighing in on meet the press on the South Dakota governors race? We used to want some mystery to our celebrities. Now everyone is a celebrity and the value is debatable. Can any actor guarantee the success of a film today?

It's a different world now. The last generation whom thinks of celebrities in the traditional sense you and I might were born in the 90s.

Tom Cruise is an old man to kids on TikTok.

Younger brains think differently because they grew up with instant access to information. If there are celebrities in their world, they will be on Instagram. There's no mystery; everyone knows each other through pictures and posts.

I don't know if any actor/actress can guarantee the success of a film today, but I also think it will matter less and less in the future.

I like and support artists, I don’t have time for celebrities. They can be both but the longer they’re in the spotlight the less interesting they become.

Eh, the celebrity culture is bigger than ever. It's just that one no longer needs a massive PR machine of a movie studio to be famous. Nor does one need an army of lawyers and managers to make huge bucks off instafame. Of course, without agents and managers, the careers will rise and fall faster because these instastars work off their innate charm rather than their education, experience or brain power.

And movie stars will remain in a limelight because the system is reverting back to the pre-TV/pre-anti trust studio system, only the studios are being replaced by the streamers. Once that settles down, Netflix will have its own stars (beside Dave Chapelle, Adam Sandler and the Cuties) and Apple TV+ will have its, and so on for other majors like Disney, Peacock, Amazon, etc.
