Cool Footage Please?

I was kind of under the impression that the RED boys (And girls) were out shooting new footage last week...

That said, when can we expect to see some of it?? I personally am not all that interested in size (4k) but more interested in color, DOF, and dynamic range.. So there should not be a problem putting some cool stuff online..

But.. If JJ still has a bug up his butt about downrezzing his pretty, HUGE footage, then I would settle for some nice stills!! :)

I know if I was creating the next big camera I sure as hell wouldn't release ANY compressed images until the camera is out and the folks who actually gonna buy it can see it in its full uncompressed glory. Look what happened when HVX footage came out before folks saw it in in Native form. The Internet is full of whiney little trolls who know just enough about image quality to make complete asses of themselves and start all sorts of rumors about how Camera X is worse quality then their single chip Hi-8. If everyone understood compression fully (which I don't) then maybe it would make sense, but for now, that would shoot Red straight in the foot.

I do not agree.. If that were true he would not have released JPEG stills downrez'd to 2k.

He can slate the footage like he did the stills. Personally I don't care if it's 30seconds at 100mb.. Although his server might!!

I can't say "we" cause I don't know everyone on here personally, but I can say "I" as a reservation holder want to see something. Another point: 4k footage has already been shown.. He has answered that question so I don't think that will be a problem right now.


RED has the ability to downrez to 480p using REDCine and can work with any codec on the system. This is a fact of it's workflow. I am simply asking that they demonstrate this aspect and put it online.

As for whiners, I don't care what you show, they will whine.

The Naysayers seem to have one main doubt from what I can see:
1. People are wondering if RED will really be able to show SLO-MO or 60fps (They REALLY wonder about 120fps)

Notice: I am not bitching here.. If the answer is "no" then I will be silent.. But there's no harm in asking.

So Uncle Jim.... Can I have it?

I agree !

The shadowy girl chewing bubblegum against black footy was underwhelming.

Surely there is some killer moving pictures for us to see ? Exteriors ? Sky's ? Detail ? Colors ?
 
Since I think most people want this as a cinema camera... I'd like to see something dramatic... something that would look like it belongs on a movie set... both outside and inside... that's why I liked the shots of the woman better than the car and watch... and no its not because I like woman.,, which I do... but it gave us a look at what people would look like...

How about like 2 ninjas fighting a Macbeth chart and then the Macbeth chart kicks their asses Matrix-style. Then the Macbeth chart like rides a motorcycle off a cliff by the beach and then parachutes onto a cigarette boat.

i'm all for interior and/or exterior shots lit any way you choose - just place the bubble gum women in the shot somewhere !!!

As you know I am one of the friendlys here.. But I am curious about something:

Could you please explain to me, using small words, the nature of your relationship to RED? I ask because I have noticed a fair amount of speculation on this point in other forums, and it occurred to me that I don't really know what it is either. I feel I should know since something like this does not need to be a secret.

It's clear that you are privy to a lot of info before anyone else. Dare I say you either know it when RED does, or you are next in line after RED. This is PERFECTLY COOL! But just to satisfy curiousity, could you tell me your history with Jim and how you got caught up in all of this.

If nothing else it will help the future screenwriter who has to do that movie on your life... Don't turn away now mister.. You KNOW it's coming.

I don't know, and I don't care. I am just hanging out patiently untill Jarred posts pics when the red team releases them. It doesn't matter what site the pics are posted on, as long as I can see them.
 
We have given Jarred a window into RED so that you all have someone who is seeing what we are doing 1st hand. We trust Jarred to be fair and tell it like it is. Mike Curtis has been extended the same courtesy, he just lives in Texas so it is harder for him to visit as often. Don't worry though, while Jarred is at the RED offices, we make him lift the heavy boxes. That keeps him at bay.

Us tall people are only good for two things... getting all the stuff on the top shelves and hitting our heads on low-lying celing fixtures.

Well I feel better now.. Nothing is free Jarred.. If you get the cool info, some heavy lifting is nessesary.
