Very nice and pro looking. May I ask about what lenses did you use and what was done in post production?

We used my set of Nikon MF lensese, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and the kit lens for a couple of the exterior shots of the building... In post I removed the pulldown with Neo Scene, edited in FCP, and did an initial color grade with a basic 3 way color corrector (crushing the blacks, making sure everything was within broadcast standards). Then I did another pass where I tweaked the color wheels in the 3 way to get the look I wanted. And finally, for some scenes, I used Looks to add some film grain, adjust saturation, and played with the contrast. In some scenes I added Bleach bypass and others warming or cooling filters.

Glad you liked it man!

Cool feel, great location lots of texture, fun chaos idea goes with the song.

Love the color direction on the keys!

If you don't mind a few questions,

How did you find the location?

why post on both you tube and vimeo?

felt really good wish with the faceless thing came earlier by about a minute. (which you did in what program) I think the second verse? seemed a little repetitive.

for me I wish the end explaned the chaos a bit...

So glad you liked it!

The location I knew about through a feature I gripped on that shot in that building, so before shooting that day I wondered around the building looking around and found that banged up piano and flipped out, thinking it would be so cool to see someone playing that for a music video. The building belongs to a friend of mines grandparetns (makeup artist on the film) so I called her up and asked if I could use it for the video.

I posted on both Vimeo and YouTube a) because a lot of people on here like vimeo better for which ever reasons and also I just want it to be seen, so everywhere it could possibly go I would like it to be posted.

The faceless thing I did in FCP, keyframing the face plates if you will that I created in photoshop using a picture of a fat guys gut of all things!

The concept of the song is that the guys are saying hey, don't let yourself be oppressed by anyone, stand up for yourself, but who are we to tell you what to do, we're a couple of white males. So the video is them doing this pirate broadcast of their message, and people hearing it, as well as the faceless oppressors, who want to shut them down. So that's why when you see the guy looking up at the speaker and running off, that is the start of the mob running to the building to shut them up.

Please tell that story about the location to every director that's pissed off he's griping instead of directing...

Every job is an opportunity, its up to you to seize it.

Haha! I love gripping, it helps me not only to see what the rest of the crew really thinks and talks about behind closed doors and lets me study other directors and see how their choices differ or would be similar to my own.

Kinda new at this game... Seeing as you used a lot of different lenses, I was curious... Which of those lenses provides the strongest shallow depth of field effect? I have a canon 50mm which does a good job, but just curious what I should hunt down next. Thanks, and the video was amazing!

Uncle Benji: As a general rule, the bigger the focal length, the shallowed the depth of field gets... 50mm is considered by most to be close to the way the human eye sees... 85 is considered by most to be the best for portrait photography (obviously opinions differ but in that area) etc... the key to utilizing DOF is not over-doing it. Since the advent of DSLR, especially Canons, I've seen a lot of what I like to call DOF abuse. Just cause you can get, doesn't mean you should. On a wide shot, things 4 feet behind the subject should not be out of focus!

And Richard... thanks dude but credit has to go to Jeff Maher my DP on this vid! He's incredibly talented and fearless, and this was his first time using this camera.

Amazing video and a great song! I wasn´t impressed so far by the GH1 but this blows 90% of the Canon shot videos out of the water!!!
Panasonics "next thing" might be the game changer after all...
But poo poo the technical aspects, this again proofs that it is TALENT, not technique...
Great job!:2vrolijk_08:

Holy crap thanks so much... that's an enormous compliment, I'll pass that on to the whole team (always a team effort!)
