[WTB] Cooke 20-60

Hi everyone, I'm interested in finding a Cooke 20-60. If you know of one out there, please let me know.

Thanks!

I cycled one out when the Great Lens Run of 2009 occurred. That's when RED started shipping en masse and suddenly everyone wanted cheap PL lenses. I sold AbelCine's 20-60 for $4K and probably should have asked for $6K. But it had rented three days in the previous five years so I figured any money was good money.

It was a nice lens in its day, but big and slow with a limited range by today's standards. You should have seen some of the crap people were clearing out of the dustbins. I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night.

Thanks Ryan! I got this in my head to have my own PL mount lenses… this lens and the 18-100 or 20-100 are on my radar as well. Sadly I'm not made of money so the longer zooms will have to wait… a little bit.

I am a little concerned about sensor coverage. I know the 20-100 and the 20-60 were designed for Academy 35 and not S35 but…

That's a great idea David! I have contacted 1 company but with the holidays and all, response has been slow.

In my obsessed behaviour regarding lenses these days I came across an old post where the gentleman you sold the lens to was himself selling it.

It seems to be the right lens for my needs right now (with the budget I have). I feel it's still a light enough zoom to do handheld with when needed (unlike the 18-100… or at least not for extended periods of time). Plan B is the Red 18-50 or Red pro 17-50. I have a slight "penchant" for the Cooke's for some reason though… not sure why.

Any input is always welcome though.

The 20-60 will cover S-35 but not sure which camera you want to use it for. Some sensors (RED 5K & 6K, Canon C300) are a little bigger than S-35 and the lens may not cover. I really wouldn't know as we never critically tested.

This is not the best choice for handheld. It is kinda heavy with much of the weight way out front. It is also a pretty slow T-stop compared to modern short zooms, a full stop slower.

Would the lens (or the 20-100) cover through the full range on the Sony F3 and F5/55?

Don't know. The sensor sizes are different. The F3 is close to S-35 (just a little smaller) but the F5/55 is actually smaller, closer to Academy 35. But it is still larger than Academy, which is why I couldn't promise coverage. I know for a fact that the 20-100 does NOT cover the F3, just not sure about F5/55.

I think Matt Duclos has an image circle chart on his blog, and I made a poster of the different sensors while at Abel. It's on their website under Resources.

Matt does have an image circle chart. It's great information, but the Cookes aren't included yet.

Does anyone know if the image circle is larger on the Techno/Cookes?
