Converting 29.97fps Stock Footage to 23.97fps

Hi,

I've recently downloaded some 29.97fps HD stock footage and want to use it in my Final Cut project which was shot on the HVX200 in 23.97fps.

I'm working with the stock footage in After Effects and after dropping the 29.97 footage into my 23.97 comp, it looks stuttery on playback. I know I need to do some kind of conversion on the stock footage, but I'm not 100% sure how to go about it. Thanks in advance for your help!

HVX200 Editing Project = 23.97fps (Final Cut Pro)

After Effects Comp = 1280x720 @ 23.97fps

HD Stock Footage = Apple Photo JPEG 1920x1080 @ 29.97fps

Use compressor to convert to your current codec. It will look jumpier than the original, as the original has more frames and was meant to be played at 29.97 (not designed for the 24p cadence)...but it will look better than what you are doing.

In reality it should just run slower and you'd use time remapping to speed it up...

Maybe there's a field order issues...

Have you interpreted the footage correctly in after effects??

Cheers

Well, slowing the footage down by 5% and then turning on frame blending in After Effects seems to work pretty well. The interpolated frames definitely smooth out the footage and don't seem to cause any serious artifacting.

Thanks CS3!
