Convert your H264 to P2 MXF in CS4

Ok, so editing/viewing these MOV H264 files is a royal PITA.

I just did some testing, you are able to convert 1080 24p or 30p from the 7D to 1280x1080 24p or 30p in Premiere Pro CS4/Adobe Media Encoder. The aspect ratio is correct despite the smaller width, do you lose some horizontal resolution, but the superior DVCPROHD codec and native editing in CS4 is worth it IMHO.

If editing from 30p, just make sure when making a new sequence to edit DVCPROHD, choose 1080i 60i, then click the "General" tab and under Video change the Fields to Progressive.

just curious how exactly you were going about doing this - do you export then reimport the files?

Yeah, imported all the files, put it on one timeline, then exported to 1 big MXF file - then imported to a DVCPROHD timeline. Could be a PITA if you have a ton of files, but if not, then it works pretty well.

Give the Avid DNxHD a try, it runs really well on my laptop vs the Canon H264.

You can set up the conversions in After FX and batch process them if you want.

I was trying this and is it possible to convert to 1080p 29.97fps? I don't see it on the list, for 29.97fps it's only 720p... maybe I don't have the right version? I downloaded the LE version...

Update: never mind, the converted clip isn't changed I mean its still 1080p... maybe I need more testing :-) but this is awesome... scrubbing the clip on time line is much better now... thank you!!!

hmm i did this and the resulting vid was black in premier - did i do something wrong

Must be... because it wasn't black in my premiere ;-) I notice one time I was trying multiple clips at once and though they completed, there was some error after the rendering in after fx... I didn't bother to look at it... but most of the videos contain only sound... so I tried again, one by one... and it seems ok... so I must have done some thing wrong... did you try a whole bunch?
