Convergent Design TITAN

Well that's why you can "operate" the shot of the closeups on the OLED or through an optional joystick while letting the wide shot stay static.

I think he is referring to the focus issue. You can "operate" the closeup but you won't be able to change focus of the closeup without affecting all 3 shots. Titan (and clients) is going to beg to stop down the lens, use small sensor (1/4",1/3") camcorder or to place subjects of all 3 shots on one plane of focus.

I think it's awesome that the tech exists to do this, and I'm sure for a small number of people it could be useful, but I don't think it's going to start killing jobs or replacing whole crews, for several reasons:

- There's not enough difference in framing for many (most?) situations
- What happens when you need to re-frame your wide shot slightly? All three streams will get disrupted, which is disastrous in an as-live recording environment.
- It can't replace multiple angles - for multiple camera productions, cuts will always look cleaner (ie: less like jump cuts) and the eyelines and compositions will always look better if you have multiple cameras.
- Lens imperfections will be exaggerated in an un-even manner (so different crops might display different sharpness, exposure, CA and distortion characteristics.

It's a cool tool for those who need it, but nothing to panic about for the rest of us!

The list price for TITAN will be $1295, but we will initially release it at an introductory price of just $995. I do not know at this time how long that introductory offer will last.

hmmmm...seems kinda steep, even at $1k, for something that I can do in post. But, thanx for clearing that up.

Hi CD guys,

I'm interested in the Titan option for the Odyssey 7Q+, and watching one of your videos it mentions an optional remote joystick to perform smooth panning shots with the cropped extracts. Has that been released yet? If so how much is it please? Very interested in this too! Thanks.

Dear Jonathan,

We do not have the Joystick support ready at this time, sorry.

I can't promise when we will have it ready.

Respectfully,

Ugh. Not a good thing for camera ops / DP's.

Get used to it.

Previous 'middle man' got obsolete too, with technology and Internet. (bookstores, other shops, financial services).

I think this device will find it's way to Internet video makers.

I think 95% of the daily produced video content isn't made by DP's. It is sad but times are changing. Happily there is always room for old-fashioned craftsmanship and quality too.

For me the device would be better if it was possible to add two camera's to it, one on a tripod with 4K output for cropping, and one HD camera for panning tilting zooming etc.
