Convergent Design NAB '15 Announcements

being not native english I am asking you to tell me if it means sth different than what I intended to say: the April update is coming in May now (maybe) and it's the same old story of not keeping schedule, promises, plans...

Hi Mitch,

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to post this on, I have a question regarding the audio recorded on the 7q+. I've seen on the 7Q+ specifications that it records 2-channel SDI or HDMI embedded audio (48KHZ, 24bit). I'm using the FS700 which has internal 16bit audio. If I output to the 7Q+ (recording in pro res) will it bypass any internal audio to give me true 24bit? Many thanks in advance.

How is the bug fixes coming along? Is there any important bugs treatet in the next firmware?

Right now the Odyssey is pretty useless for me, with the ugly skincolors...
I know that there is progress. If that progress is deemed stable and of value in the testing then it will be included.

I'll have to check with the engineers on that one, as it's particular to how Sony engineers things in the camera. By embedding it in the RAW stream it is very possible that it is locked to 16-bit at that stage. But I'll need to check to confirm.

Can speak for myself only but it's highly likely that the internal audio converter is working in 16bit/48KHz only. I doubt that the converter is working in 24bit then converts internally to 16bit.

The 24bit audio recorded on the OD7Q+ would be 24bit but from a 16bit audio frame (not to mistake with a video frame) with padded zeroes.

How do you select the audio input to be analog? It says in the manual that it should be available in Prores but all my audio options are greyed out...

"Allows selection of audio input source.

SDI/HDMI (embedded in incoming signal)
ANALOG (analog 2-channel input via AUD IN port)
Currently available only for HD Apple ProRes recording."

Is it possible to record embedded audio from the camera and 2 extra analog channels this way?

We checked. The camera is sending out 16-bit audio.

What mode are you in?

You will only be able to choose analog or embedded, not both. At least not for now.

FS700 recording 4K2HD Prores. Would be really nice to be able to record 4 channels of audio simultaneously using FS700 XLR inputs via SDI to O7Q and then 2 more via O7Q analog inputs. Put that into a 4 channel wav file inside the Prores and oh my... ;)

Perhaps in the future. Currently we only record two channels, but plan to record up to eight in the future.

What's with the TC IN on the 7Q? Is it supposed to work? Is it going to be fixed? I tried to use it on a recent job and it just gave me TC that jumped around to random numbers. I had to go back to just using embedded TC from the camera.

Can you please file a report with our Support Desk at cdsupport@convergent-design.com. It would be helpful if you could indicate the mode you were shooting in, with what camera, frame rates and what device you were using to attempt to feed timecode into your Odyssey7Q.

The LTC timecode system on the Odyssey works quite well in various configurations, and I have used it myself to feed in timecode from an outside source to jam sync as I suspect you were attempting. I don't know the details of your issues but we have worked just fine in the past with various systems.
