C100: Controlling individual audio levels w/ 1 external mic

I have an external shotgun mic plugged into CH1. I have both channels reading audio from that shotgun mic. My question is: How do I control each channels audio individually? ie. I'd like to have 1 channel recording a little lower lower level than the other. They are linked right now; recording the same level.

I've been reading all morning trying to figure this out and I'm sure its something simple that I'm missing. Thanks for any help.

Absurd is right.

I have an AG=AC160A and there are two independent volume controls, complete with meters so you can set one lower and see the result.

The dials, for some reason, are VERY sensitive in that if you set them anywhere close to mid-dial, chances are any loud sound will put you into red-line terrirory.

I usually make sure both meters go no more than 1/3 volume, one a bit lower than the other. It seems easier to boost the sound post-recording providing the base signal is at a reasonable level.

I suppose on-camera shotgun mics are a necessary evil for run and gun interviewing.

I often use a Trascam DR-100 Mk II, appropriately placed, although it is a pain to synchronize the sound with the video. I wish Plural Eyes would come out with something that works with Sony Vegas.

For stage events, I always push for a feed from the sound board. It's best to get the music (if there is any) on one channel and the actor's voices on a different channel -- sometimes the mix on a combined feed is such that the music overpowers the voices.

I find myself constantly having to tweak sound levels.

Any advice would be appreciated.
