Considering some Schneider Cine-Xenar lenses... anyone use them?

accoring to the S.A.L.T. tests done on reduser by several of the most respected members of the forum, the Uniq Optics were... identical to red pro primes. on every level they could see without special tools. There's a big rumor uniq is getting the glass from the same distributor as red. and the uniqs are 10k more than the RPP's i believe.

haven't heard anything new about the razor lenses, were they even at NAB this year?

The specs of the Uniq Optics indicate they weigh a little less than the RPP's. Same optics and different housing? I hope they make S.A.L.T II.

I´m getting really intrigued about the cine xenar lenses.

I like the idea of round iris.
They cover a bit more than s35mm.
The mount seems to be available in PL and canon (where is the nikon mount???).
No breathing.
The chrosziel kit seems affordable and it seems to fix the issue with how the lenses extend fwd when focusing.

With an EF to F3 mount adapter the Razor series seems like an AWESOME deal!

Would be a great deal, but I dont think the long term investment would be wise with those lenses. I'm looking at PL mounts only, I will be buying an Alexa in the next 12-18 months and would like my lenses to be a final purchase for the next 6 years at least. Not possible with an EF only mount.

I dunno guiseppe.

It seems once electric mounts improve somewhat, EF may have a big resurgence.

I feel like we will get electronically marked lenses.

Maybe with a crowd like AF-100's, but I don't see Alexa-level Pro's looking for EF lenses any day soon. I think DSLR users moving onto AF-100's and those who venture further to F3 will find these options intriguing.

Now you know I'm not the biggest red fan, but the stuff they are doing with autofocus lenses is pretty amazing.

Don't be surprised to see fully functional follow focus enabled electric lenses very soon.....

That said, I would use PL on anything I possibly could.. hell I own 14 of them.......

I guess I'm going to have to look into it. I can't imagine what auto-focus would do for any of my productions. I really don't see the benefit. You have any links? Then again, I'm a pretty good focus puller. I suppose if I totally sucked at it, it would look attractive to me.

EFP, ENG, focus at the tap of a touch screen following the subject, remote electronic focus control without need of expensive bartech, cmotion, preston, etc. etc. those shots where someone really wants to shoot a 85 mm at t1.2... electronic focusing can really make that happen a lot easier... of course the always great, cheaper than PL.

thought you still suffer from breathing, lack of incremental focus etc, I can see a lot of uses for it. The birger mount alone has shown it's totally workable and a lot of people love using EF lenses. and I think they'll be increasing in importance as sensor sizes get to full frame in real cinema cameras. and sometimes you just need an option of cheaper fast glass that's great optically at the cost of some mechanics.

Wll the way I see it, with an electronic lens, you can have thousands of witness marks. Accurate to the millimeter.

You can have a simple wireless system, hell with a small RFID lapel button tag, have the lens and a triagulator hidden on set work together to pull focus automatically.

Instant super accurate pre programmed focus pulls.

Many things.

Timur... have you seen your cookes with i/technology on? lol. You have hundreds of witness marks... more than you need. DoF isn't that shallow to need millimeters! :)

I get what you are saying... but unless you are shooting 'Without Limits' and having to use a Preston Ranger, I don't see the big deal. I guess time will tell, but focus pulling isn't at the top of my list of things that sets need improving upon.

I guess I just don't see the problem. I see the solution, but it seems 'extra' or for very seldom times where it could be beneficial.

There is something very exciting about the idea of being able to wirelessly control focus and iris of lightweight lenses for <$2k and without any of the weight or power or time-consuming lens changes required by a followfocus system with motors and a wireless receiver, since red/birger are potentially able to just use the internal motors built into still lenses.

I've seen a set of Illuminas and I have to say that the build quality was atrocious. The barrels were made of injection molded plastic that felt gross to touch and had pits.
It's absurd to say the Illuminas now or two years ago had plastic barrels! Where do you get off making a false statement like that?!? In the two years the Illuminas are being sold improvements have been made to the
mechanics and cosmetic design but the superb optics did not need any design change. The lenses are a terrific value - very high quality, very high speed at a very low price. On July 1 the price goes up to $ 34,995, mainly
because of a 40% increase in Schott glass (same glass used by Zeiss)!
