AC160 Confused over Sync Scan Type in AC160

I am having difficulty understanding Barry's book on this camera. Specifically on Sync Scan Type and Syncro Scan. I want to set the camera up for 24p 1920 which I have done because I want the best filmic look possible. Do I need to pay attention to Scan Type and Syncro Scan? I do want the correct shutter speed and understand that I can set this for 1/48 shutter speed for 24p and 1/120 shutter speed for 60p if I want to capture slow motion. But, should I set the shutter dial to Synchro Scan or 180 d instead. I don't understand the difference and do these things matter for normal shooting?

If you want to keep the 180 degree rule in force at all frame rates, then yes, set the Sync Scan Type to "deg", and set the Syncro Scan Shutter to 180 degrees, and then go and change your shutter speed to the syncro scan speed. That way it will always be 1/48 at 24p and 1/120 at 60p, and if you choose any of the other variable frame rates, it will be adjusted properly for them too.

Hi:
This seems to produce flakey behavior in the camera menu system. I thought I had set this up for PH24p 1920, yet when using the view finder in the back (set to black and white) I found the setting had changed to PH60i 1920! I went to Recording Set up again using the back viewer, but no matter how I jiggled the toggle switch, I could not move it over to 24p. So I turned the camera on and off and then using the pull out viewfinder, was able to change it. Next, I turned the camera off, went home, and then went to see if it had remembered the settings correctly. It had, so then I tried to move the PH24 setting to PH60 while looking through the back viewer and moving the toggle. I was unable to move the selection to PH60p. Can anyone else replicate this? I am not sure if it is a programming glitch, operator error or a manufacturing defect.
