Confused about drivers needed for p2-powerbook-hard drive dump

I'm a bit confused and am trying to get my ducks in a row as I'll have access to 16gb cards tomorrow.

Several posts on the forum say you need to install a driver on your mac in order to see/dump the files to an external hard drive.

What I want to do

Hook an external 250 gig firewire drive to my laptop

Put the 16gb P2 card in the slot on my G4 Powerbook(OS 10.3.9/677 Mhz/1gig ram)

See the disk image of the drive

Copy the entire P2 card to a new folder in my external drive.

The Panasonic site says no driver is necessary, however some posts on this forum indicate that they had to download a driver.

Has anyone done what I want to do?

Did it work?

Does te file sizes in the P2 make any difference?

Thanks

Kip

Oh, and yes it works doing it this way. The file sizes also don't matter (with the exception of taking longer to copy bigger files of course).

If you're going to do a direct copy and paste make sure you take the entire file structure with you, possibly including the lastclip.txt file. There seems to be vague debate on whether you need that file, but really why not take it? It's not going to take up much space.

If you want to use P2CMS (a free P2 Viewer for Mac that also transfers) you can read my complete strategy on this thread: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=108056

The only thing I'm not sure about is that your OS is 10.3.9, that may cause issues?
