Computer not recongizing camera

Don't mean to start a new thread but I couldn't find this topic answered.

I've never had any troubles capturing footage but now my computer doesn't notice my camera. I'm trying to capture the HDV footage in Vegas. All computer and camera settings are the same as they've always been. Vegas sees the camera but says "device not available."

Any ideas?

Start from the top and work your way back. Reboot didnt work. Id try plugging something else into the fw port and see if that works.

I would check the camera settings, if it sees the camera but cant communicate with it, something on the camera is not right. Make sure there is a timecode at the beginning of the tape!

I had the exact same problem you had (and still doish)

when importing HDV into vegas 7 i had to change the project settings to 1080 50i (60i if ntsc i guess) before the computer would recognize it. Dont know why. Similar to that you need to se the recording (signal) setup on the cam to that of what you are importing. So DV would be 16-9 25f.

Hope this solves your problem temp.

OK I fixed it. My frontside firewire port burnt up. I had to plug directly into the back.

Thats what I figured. Make sure your camera is off when you plug it in.

always shut off your video cmera, plugging in your DSLR or your point and shoot to your computer.
