Hello,
On the Canon XH A1S camera, you have a component HD out and a DV out. Here's what I want to do and let me know if this is possible. I want to attach an LCD monitor to the component HD out (i.e. like a Manhattan LCD on-camera monitor). At the *Same* time, i want to plug in the DV out to a Firestore FS-CF recorder that uses CF cards so I have a backup on the card. Are the two outputs active at the same time? Some cameras, like Sony EX1, only activate certain combinations of outputs. Does anyone have the answer?
Thank you all
Asaf.

yes, they are both active at the same time; i use a DN-60 as well as a Manhattan 8.9" LCD at the same time; one records to CF cards via HDV/ieee1394/iLink/Firewire, the other is purely a focusing screen for the Letus/follow focus units. I believe the HDV output is slightly higher bitrate (10mbit vs 8 on MiniDV tape) with either the FS-C or DN-60, so the tape is really the backup for me.

Cinform allows the HDV stream to be captured using their Intermediate CODEC which is much more efficient for editing using Premiere. It makes everything a little more fluid as there is less strain on the system plus you're able to stack multiple layers and perform a few effects in real time. The file sizes will be about 3x larger so you'll definitely want fast drives.

Or get a monitor or recorder with loop thru's and then feed your recording device or monitor the same output...

Good luck,

How do you like the DN-60? About the same as a Firestore?

for almost a third the price of a firestore, yes i definitely like it. changing m2t files to mov or other formats is a bit of a hassle, the jog/control knob is touchy, and the thing is somewhat dinky, but it does its job.
