Complicity - a Film Noir

not bad man. The camera was was decent, but in terms of film noir, it was missing a large visual aspect of what is so infamous about film noir, nice wides, and high contrast images.

Film noir typically has longer takes, low and high angles instead of shoulder and shot reverse shot, high contrast images due to great art direction ( one of the downers of the scene where he walks in his house at 7:50 is that there are white walls, they are close to the walls and very few shadows are used ).

This isn't all that bad, just the dialogue is weird- too plot expositiony and not enough character revealing- feels like they're just saying the subtext out loud, even though Noir has the most exposition heavy dialogue the good ones balance it with more interesting characters.

I really liked this. I love noir, one of my fav genres, and i think you did a nice job of creating a nice neo-noir, in a modern day setting. Dont listen to the coffee shop house hipsters about how your angles and stuff need to be. To be the biggest ingredient of noir is the tone, and the writing, not neccesarily the look. Yes the look can add to it to, but i think your making everything during daytime, in the open adds a bit of brashness to it.

I woudl have liked to see a few more close shots mixed in, but other than that, thats my main gripe with the composition, and relatively minor.

I did feel like a few (very few) lines of the dialogue didnt work perfect but it could have been your actors more than the writing. I really liked the main character, very unnasuming, reminded me almost of a Sunset Blvd kinda guy.

Your femme fatale had a really exellent look about her, so kudos with that. I felt she could have delivered her lines a little sharper for a better tone, but heck, not everyone can be Bette Davis or Gloria Swanson.

All in all great job. What did you use for sound? Lighting? How long did this take to shoot?

Any setup shots?

Thanks for the feedback! Being a school project, we had two weeks of pre-production, two weeks of production, and two weeks of post. Audio mainly with an H4 Zoom and lav mics.

As for lighting we had a couple small arri 150s and some Lowel DPs
