Complex tape mixing question

So I'm definantly only using the dvm63mq's when recording from my dvx, but i have an older sony camera that I want to use as a tape deck. If i've used many different tapes in the sony camera, will putting the mq's in the sony and then back into the dvx mess anything up?

IE will wet lube tapes that have been on the heads on the sony go onto the mq tape and then mess up the heads on the dvx?

Also, is it possible for quality loss when capturing from a different camera?

Thanks.

If you are switching completely, it might make sence to run a cleaning tape through the smaller camera.
Of course you could always get it properly cleaned, though a new cheap camera would probabaly be cheaper!

I use an older Sony miniDV camera for capturing. I used to use Sony tapes in it. Before I started using it for my MQ tapes, I ran a cleaning tape for about 5 seconds. I have had zero problems.

I'm the same as Horse. Every once in a while if I have to capture with a few sony tapes, I'll run a head cleaner before and after.

I'm with Horse as well and use a Sony Handycam for capturing. I run mostly MQ tapes from my DVXs through it but also run different brands from other sources; usually without a cleaning tape. No problems. However, once a tape goes in the Sony, it NEVER sees the insides of my DVXs again.

So problems can be caused if you put the tape back into the DVX? Or is that only if you don't clean the heads. Because I'm most likely be going to reuse the tapes cause I only have 3.

I haven't had any problems with tapes going back and forth from my little Sony to my DVX. I only use MQ tapes in both cameras, though.

Reusing your tapes isn't the best idea. Especially if your planning on using those tapes to record important events, or for important shoots. The more you reuse a tape the more prone you are to getting drop outs. And if your planning on reusing 83 minute tapes, you might as well expect many drop outs.

Yeah, $5 a tape is much cheaper than your time.

It seems silly at this stage in the game, but really, it is always worth it to just buy new tapes.

If it's a $500 P2 card, then it makes sence to re-use. But not a $5 tape.
