Complementary 2nd camera for AF100?

I'm looking to pick up a second camera for 2nd angle on a doc project without spending an arm and a leg. I have the AF100. Would the GH2 be the one if I don't want to spend a lot? If so, could I share my lenses? Thanks for suggestions

I bought a GH2 for similar purposes.

Its a logical fit between the two cameras, lens-wise and seems to be a reasonable match, image-wise.

FWIW: I found there to be more of a learning curve with the GH2 than the AF100. Stills cameras just dont use cine terminology or film maker logic.

GH2 would suck if you wanted to shoot audio.

I second what shooter wrote, adding: with the GH2 you do have a stills camera with you that allows you to take (with an appropriate timer) a greater variety of time-lapses or set photos etc..... and it's so small you can let it sit where another video camera may not fit in.... and you can use the same type of cards and material will fit into the same work flow.... it is the logical solution...

Depends how you'd want to complement it, I guess... Either GH2 for being able to get similar shots in a smaller size, or HMC150 for getting deep focus and fast action while using the same batteries as well as media. Possibly also consider the new Panny handheld, the AC130/160 and P2 HPX250.

My kit currently includes the GH2 and HVX200 for similar reasons. Sometimes job needs differ.

You might also consider an HMC40 or HMC80. They are inexpensive as pro video cameras go, and a good complement to the AF100 in that they're optimized for quick setup, run'n'gun type of shooting with deep DOF, but they share batteries, memory cards, post workflow and many of the video looks and options with the AF100. Of the two, I prefer the HMC80 because of the shoulder mount form factor and built-in XLR audio connectors, but both produce great images -- given enough light. The weakness of both cameras is low-light performance, though, which is several stops behind the AF100, depending on lenses, of course.

i have also been looking for a matching camera, but after trying to figure out what might work best, i decided to save my money and i just bought a second AF100. matches perfectly and the workflow and myriad of accessories work flawlessly.

I would just like to say "thank you" for understanding the difference between "complimentary" and "complementary." :D

You didn't find the lack of 25P a hindrance ?

I'd buy one (or two) right now if they only freaking did 25P. I can't believe they took this frame rate AWAY.

No hindrance at all so far. Whats 1p between friends?

I do believe I heard that there may be a 25p firmware upgrade in the near future though.

Biggest hindrance is that the GH2 is a complicated little bugger to use as a "movie camera". So many buttons and menus to deal with and none of them are in a "film jargon". Hitting the wrong user buttons inadvertently when handling and shooting with these things can be a real pain.

That aside...produces a neat image and it is a useful tool alongside the AF100
