Compilation of Updated Rules

disjecta

Lucky Duck
I've been reading all of the posts and I realize that the official rules have been bent and broken in many places but have not been updated in the actual Official Rules post.

Would someone (Barry? Jarred?) be willing to update that thing so we know what the %**#@ is going on?

Thanks a bunch

We've extended the deadline to September 15th, but otherwise, I don't think the rules have changed. Let me know if I've missed something.

* Use a DVX100
* Films made with other cameras will be accepted for exhibition, but not competition.
* Films must be 5 minutes or less
* Your film must feature the UNDEAD aka ZOMBIES
* Films must be made between January 1, 2005 and September 15, 2005.
* No copyright violations, you *must* use licensed or royalty-free music
* No previous entries in DVXfest are allowed, this must be a new film
* Movies must be Quicktime or WMV format, 35MB Max.
* Jarred will host Film Entries.
* All entries are due by midnight on September 15, 2005
* The festival judging is *only* open to current DVXuser members with more than 100 posts. You may not have family or friends vote for your film. Until the voting is complete and closed, filmmakers may not promote their films on DVXUser or *any* external web site, or use any other means of promotion. Films will be judged exclusively on merit by actual DVXuser members.
* Violation of these rules may result in disqualification of an entry.
* By entering DVXFest, you also agree that your film submission may be used on a future DVXFest DVD
* Qualifying films will be screened and voted on by DVXuser.com members.

You said 75% must be done with the dvx, yes? Because you used the drink analogy.

Also, do you have a requirement that we shoot at 24p only?

Both of those questions apply to part of my shoot.
part of the movie is shot with a handycam and goes at 60i... for effect.

Oh yeah, there have been some specific clarifications for filmmakers like the 75% rule for the minimum of DVX footage. You don't have to go 24p for everything--or anything if you want.

Hi Barry
just re-read the rules ...100 post required to enter . I don't have 100 post .Why the 100 post? . My kids will be disappointed if their Zombie movie cannot be entered . They are geared up for the final scene to be filmed on the 20/21 of Aug .
Thanks....Ian

That's judging, not actually entering. You're good to go, man. :)

You can enter with like 1 post, you just can't vote on other pieces, unless you've got more than 100

Thanks for the reply .. the kids will be happy!!!
can't wait to see what the others have done .

Ninety-seven LOLs on the board

I have a question regarding the rules...

How long after September 15th should we wait before submitting our short to film festivals and other public screenings?

There are several horror festivals and screenings right around Halloween that I would love to submit our project to, but I don't want to disqualify it from the DVXuser.com competition.

Thanks in advance!

Go ahead and submit your film to the other festivals as soon as you're finished. I hope that most of the filmmakers will submit their films to various festivals. We'll start screening everything within a day or two of submission, so submitting to festivals that screen *after* our screening/judging is fine.

barry, there was a question of annonymity earlier today. We can't have credits? Is the identity of the person who made the film supposed to be annonymous? I think that's a good idea, plus it cuts down on time on the actual film for credits. Maybe allow credits on the dvd version?

Arghhh. There are too damn many zombie threads and they've all merged into one and I can't even remember which one I've posted on anymore. The fest is NOT anonymous, so go ahead and include credits if you like. Your choice. And yes, credits or not, 5 minutes is the limit.

Forgive me if this is redundant, but it's late and I've been staring at a monitor 'way too long...once our short is submitted to dvxusers.com for the competition, we can go ahead and submit to other fests, but we cannot promote the piece on dvxusers or another site that might influence the judging on dvxuser.com.

Correct?

I have seen that some of the productions are in WMV format and some of them are in QT.
I do not have QTPlayer then how can I watch all the films over the Internet?
and how can I vote justly?
