I am traveling to Europe this summer and was wondering if there was such a thing as a type of device I can insert my compact flash card into and load it onto the device to store the contents on there so that I can empty the card out and use it again instead of buying a ton of compact flash cards. Two weeks worth of footage and pics I'd like to gather.

What I am saying is I would not like to bring a laptop and a hard drive to do this. (unload footage)

Is there such a device?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Netbook?
I see a lot of photographers using mini sub-notebooks to offload cards on the job. Some tablets even have USB ports these days (Android Gtab, for example).

I've used a HyperDrive HD80 for a few years, and recently upgraded to a HyperDrive Colorspace UDMA, the Nexto's referenced above are good, Epson, Jobo, Wolverine, MemoryKick etc all have similar models with different features and price points.

Most of the makes above will download 2gigs per minute with fast cards. Beware of cheaper models that take _much_ longer to download. I had one that literally took 10x longer to download.

I like my HyperDrive because the harddrive is user upgradeable, I actually bought mine w/o a HD, and added my own. On our last trip, I also brought an extra HD to swap in if necessary.

Only Nexto makes one that will play HD video, but it's also the most expensive. I believe only their $2000- model will playback video.
