Great camera and recorder combination! Pity I overexposed (but not clipped) the skintones in the last scene, was quite hard to get an OK look out of it. Next time I will just clip my whites.

Well, here is the video:

Wow. Excellent. Image quality was great and editing was exceptional.

Could you speak to how you did the camera movements, particularly for the interiors? Jib on curved tracks? Very interesting.

one question, do you think you can deliver a similar quality with internal AVCHD ?

I've found the internal AVCHD to be quite robust and provided you're not doing a heavy colour grade or post processing you can easily deliver something like this on the internal codec.

First of all, thanks for your replies. Really appreciate that.

Yes, definitely. The AVCHD codec is actually very good. I did some side by side tests and the main difference is in the noise in the darker areas of the image. I am not sure if you could still see the difference once it is uploaded to YouTube of Vimeo. On a big screen with a not so much compressed file you will see the difference, I think.

Thanks for the compliment. The camera movement inside the observatorium was done simply on a dolly on straight tracks and then panning and tilting the head. The effect is mostly obtained by using a super wide angle (11-16mm). There are only two jib shots (one at the sand field and one at the radio telescopes), which caused me a lot of pain. In the end I would say I could have done it without jib. I would have saved half a day of shooting. Well, one learnes.

Lovely images. Had to turn the sound off lest I die of focus-grouped advertspeak buzzword overload, though.

Lovely work.

I agree with you on the Ninja v AVCHD comparison. I find it beats the AVCHD in higher ISOs.

Yeah, I understand. I was thinking, maybe only keep the phrase at the end where it says: 'the world imagines, Mimaki delivers' and leave the rest just music; could work, but requires to watch the entire (3,5 minute!) video...So far I am happy to be able to do this kind of (payed) jobs. Got already a lot of freedom in this project.
