Commercial I shot underwater with 7D

Haha that's adorable.

The footage looks good! What case were you using? I don't have any experience with underwater cases/shooting (although I'd love to do it), how much control of the lens do you have underwater?

EDIT: WOW, I just read that you used a fish tank! I clicked the link before reading the whole message! How did you use the tank?

Well you just put the camera in the square 10 gallon fish tank then put the fish tank in the water and by all means try not to let water splash over the top of the fish tank, it did a great job and since the 7D is really water resistant any splashes that did get in the tank didn't even worry me, also it was really hard to pull focus cuz basically one hand is holding the tank in the water and the other is in the tank trying to pull focus, so most cases i would set the focus to where i thought the most action would be then hold the tank with both hands. For 10 bucks I works really great for underwater stuff, I mean as long as your in a controlled environment.

I keep imagining the camera sliding around and seeing the reflection of the camera in the tank glass. Did the camera move at all if the tank was tipped? Or was this not a problem?

The camera didn't slide around at all and since the lens focuses past the glass and the camera is right next to the glass there is no reflection.

The aquarium is an awesome workaround. I did it for a couple of shallow underwater shots in mountain streams. It is optically clear glass and for being able to go shallow, it works quite well. The further you push it in the water, the more buoyant it becomes, so it is pretty manageable for simple stuff.

The underwater shots (skip ahead to 0:35) in this were done with a 10 gallon aquarium with an HVX, looking to try my 7D in a tank.

Wow!

You both did a great job on your videos.

Yeah, which camera besides the HVX took that amazing footage?

As for the fishtank? HOLY SH*T! So cool.

My wife has the Canon 7D and I use the HMC-150. Any advice for newbies on filming with the Canon 7D?

Simon
