Colors on the FS700 seem way better than the 100, CineGamma's Rule!

Anything in particular that stands out? I don't believe the 100 cannot produce the same quality (minus slow-mo of course)

color is completely dependent on the grade too... people seem to thing one video with a camera that has amazing colors means it has better colors.

There's nothing too taxing there, overcast day, grey. In fact on the final shot i can see a cyan band appear. Do we even know what profile it was done with? Having said that the cinegammas certainly do make a difference (why i've preordered one), however the FS100 in most conditions is a very, very able camera. There's xdcam users blog (Alistair who i think dips in here every so often) where he's done the same shot with and without cinegamma and you can see the rolloffs are improved and there's none of the electric blue effect. That, in combination with the abel cine candle test and Franks observations, was enough to push me over the edge and reach for the CC...

cheers
paul

In an entire year I have never seen the 100 produce the dynamic range/colors that I have seen on the fs700 these past few weeks. Cinegama 1 is what I have seen in most vids of the 700, 100 is great camera but has real color issues namely, green hue/magenta/reds, these issues have been discussed and are well known from the 100, plus to me the quality is a bit sharper on the 700 from what I see. I guess that's why it cost more, and is greatly anticipated IMO....

Yeah, the Cinegamas really help give it that, well, cine look! :)

I really don't think i've been this excited for a purchase in my life! (other than my Nintendo 64 back in '96!) I keep checking B&H every day just in case somehow it shipped early. My only other camera was an HMC-40, which is nice for what it is, but... getting the FS700 will be like that Nintendo 64 all over again!

Count me as entirely bored with slo-mo.

There's nothing special about the colours in that video.

The benefit the FS700 has over the FS100 is the built in NDs which mean ND faders will be a thing of the past. These faders produce all sorts of different colour casts and if people aren't scrupulous with white balancing they'll get indifferent results.

One of the old lenses I purchased filter rotates with focus and you can see the colour changing on the LCD as the focus is changed. This is due to the ND Fader and not the camera and means I'll use screw-ins instead with this lens.

I have not seen any poor colour rendition with the FS100 that couldn't be explained by lack of white balance. There's nothing neutral about a ND Fader and its influence must be balanced out with manually white balancing regularly.

So 90 percent of videos of the 100 including Philip Bloom's video's didn't properly white balance? Thats why every time I see FS100 video, I find almost the same color rendition problems as well as footage I have color corrected myself/? I beg to differ, from review's and footage I have seen from the FS700, it does incamera color rendition better than the 100 which leads to better and easier color grading or correcting . Sorry but the 100 is a very good camera, but you have to color correct the s*%t out of it, also speaking from personal experience. I don't think you are giving this camera it'a due credit, Sony and BMC have answered the call that RED and CANON didn't which is, "give us a great camera at a reasonable price" and they have IMO =)

Is there a Philip Bloom video online that isn't colour graded apart from his test clips?

The video you posted is heavily graded not to mention that the skin tones are a different from shot to shot so I don't understand your point. How can you use this video to back up your claims?

I am willing to bet there's a load of people out there that don't fully understand the implications of using ND Faders and rely on camera preset WB or dial in WB when they should be using a manual WB and doing it regularly when ever they change exposure with the ND Fader.

I guess we will agree to disagree, the video I posted dosent seem graded at all btw and if so it has beautiful dynamic range then, I must see different than you good sir

You can't at least see the vignette?

How can you judge dynamic range under an overcast sky? An overcast sky is no challenge to any camera released in the last two decades.

I really do think you see things differently.

Why are you so bent on not liking this camera ? I do see vignette btw, as 4 DR not going to get into a pointless discussion, you are not a fan of this camera it seems and don't see what I see, but hey that's what makes us individuals, if we saw things the same way life would be boring =)

Sorry, when did I say I wasn't a fan of this camera?

I'm just holding you to a bit of intellectual rigour regarding your unsupported comments on colour reproduction and dynamic range.

By almost every post since the camera was announced, I have seen you post mostly negative things about this camera. I love the fs100 but the color rendition suck IMO, and how do you wish me to support my claims do you want my eyeballs or something? I see what I see, wtf supported LOL..

Hell yeah I luv this camera because it seems to suit every need that I require and not yet seen a test shot I didn't like, except for all the annoying slomo, the camera is awesome at this price point! Now time to dance naked and sing praises too the fs700 LOL
Why are you so bent on slagging the FS100 with all these "OMG, this is the greatest camera ever!!!!" posts?

When I think back most of the posts I wrote on the FS700 very negative too, criticising aliasing, resolution, noise but nevertheless I have ordered one. The next better camera would be the F3 or the C300, but the cost 3000-4000 € more and lack of "consumer features" like autofocus.

How old are you?

I haven't posted anything negative about the FS700.
