Re: Color Grading samples...

sorry Cris , I din't mean to attack you.

My problem was that I couldn't deside if he was just joking with the first 2 Before pictures. I thought it isn't a DVX, but the 3th. has to be a DVX or an color corrected After picture named Before. Just to test us. Do you follow?

But I sad, it has to be a DVX because the DVX do handle the green and the brown on a different way than other camcorders. See nr.3, nr.4. So I was confused. That's why I asked if he had something wrong with his camcorder.

The rest has nothing to do with the pictures, it has more to do with us DVX users.

Re: Color Grading samples...

"I know its potenital but it doesn't mean I'm going to tweak its look" - but you can do it better than the first 2 Befores, I'm sure.
If not and you mean this the way to go than I'm going to buy 2 more cellphones.

(BTW Disjecta use a lot of post)

Interesting assumption. I just found this post.

My favorite tool in post is the Levels tool and that's almost the only one I use. I've experimented with Magic Bullet but I generally don't use it for finished work.

I do agree that the original shots could have been better with the master ped set lower and also proper exposure. So the "afters" are naturally going to look a lot more dramatic than the original. If nothing else, it shows the power of post production.

Re: Color Grading samples...

I understand what you mean by post work making people lazy. It happens, yes but that isn't the reason many of us here choose to shoot the footage clean and then tweak it in post. We do it because it provides maximum flexibility. That's it. I don't use magic bullet unless I am rushed to get something done. I much prefer to work using the color finess plugin (that now comes standard with AE).

Re: Color Grading samples...

sergej shut the f*ck up, seriously.

oh- and go take those pictures you claim you can take- THEN you can say something. dont come in here starting crap for attention. jeez.

Re: Color Grading samples...

Zach_Lien f*ck you too!

Read my first post! I was asking him about the Before pictures not the color corrected ones.

And you know what? My cell phone can do the first picture as well. ;D

Re: Color Grading samples...

Sergej, I don't get you.  You sound like you know your stuff but again then it sounds like you don't.

Yes, you shoot for the best possible image.

But there is nothing wrong in fixing things in post (and I'm not talking about the famous statement lets fix it in post) to get a better look, sound, etc.  Its the final product that counts.  For example I co-produced a feature with two sisters who co-directed.  It was just like dakotapod's post.  But in the end they won best director at two film festivals and Varitey just gave us a glowing review on the DVD release (said the film was good enough to go onto the big screen).

And I can remember one of the pa's coming up to me after the first festival and asking me "how could they win?   They fought all the time."  But what matters is the final product.  The viewer never sees the rough cut, the untimed print.  They only see the final product.  Now I got to admit we did fire one of the sisters because of the fighting in post.  So that might have helped also.

Re: Color Grading samples...

I disagree wit Serj, you cannot achieve those looks in the DVX, hell I also have the XL2 which has even more parameters to tweak and I still enjoy tweaking the picture to my liking. Besides do you think they shoot film on 35mm and that's the end? While i've definitely read some ass kissing posts, yours has to be the most assinine reply i've read. The color corrected frames here are very nice indeed, and I guess Rich Lee is lazy because he uses Magic Bullet. You must be attention starved.
