Color Correction

I'm new to the fs100 and not very happy with the picture quality coming out of the camera with the presets. I've read on this forum how much Picture Profiles can help if you are willing to do a little work in post, however I'm not a colorist or experienced in it and would love to know what you guys use for cc. I'm Mac based with Media Composer, Premiere Pro and FCPX. Also, as far as Frank's G-log, is there a standard way of color correcting to achieve the kind of image quality we see on his posts?
Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated!

+1 to that... and another good primer;

The basic tools are a monitor that can be trusted and scopes....

I finish and grade in Avid|DS where i have a rack of injest & project color model optioms that most NLE's do not (Pablo, Mystika and Flame Premium are the only other one's i can think of) and work in either a room with a DolbyPr4200 refrence monitor or a gradeing theatre with a Christe 2K projector + a Sony 24" BVM-OLED.

In MC i would capture (not AMA) as full range, MC calls it "computer RGB 0-255" and use you might try one of NIRV, Ferrari or PointCam or other profiles that preserve highlights, and retain color depth, then expose to 109, and set blacks at -15, basicly get everything you can off the sensor and into the codec as un-mucked up as possiable

I have my own ideas how i get the best out of the FS100, i would caveat that it is very post workflow dependant, so test test test.... your own tests for your own workflow and deliverables... start with the basic settings, let the camera be it's self first...

but i would avoid heading down a rabbit hole of profiles optimised for software that clip & crushes when you have software that can work with full range, the trade-off's of working with profiles designed for software that has only a limited range are questionable when used in software that does not have the same limitations
