Color Correction Help

Re: Color Correction Help

It's really simple to accomplish what I did, most adobe programs have this capability. Go and auto your levels, or adjust to liking, and then up the contrast a bit, but not to much or you'll blow it out. Do this before laying your vegas or dft filters on and you'll be a happy camper. ;D

good luck!

Re: Color Correction Help

flateric wins IMO. these colours fit best to the location and type (without knowing the storyline).

next time use a 35mm ARRI, then you can save a lot of colourcorrecting time ;D

Re: Color Correction Help

Guys this is a great thread, I love seeing what you have all done. Heres the one thing I've noticed.

Every single shot looks totally like video. I wouldn't say any of these look like film at all.

Mike's image actually is so marked up however that I forget it doesn't look like video, in fact it looks kinda like 8 mm.

Heres my question, I have a ***** of a time quantifying "film look". Could some pro here please explain WHY this shot looks SO video like? And what could have been done before post to address this?

I've been on a mission to get DOF out of this camera. My current settings involve always doing at least a z70 and f3 to f4 and manual focus. I may start another thread in fact, but answers here would be great.

Re: Color Correction Help

Doesnt look like video or film to me but it does have the "DVX look" and that is totally cool and valid. Forget what "look" it has ...just make a "look" of your own within the capablity of what ever you have as tools on your projects.

Getting DOF is no problem with DV ... losing it is more difficult.

Re: Color Correction Help

I agree with Lucidz..
Mike_E's are great. They look like 16mm to me...definitely useful if you're going for a kind of throwback slackers feel. Not sure what I mean by that. Now freak it with some DOF. ooooooooooooooooohhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

is actually an after effect plugin that i copied and pasted inside the premiere pro plugins folder.
you can use most of the after effects plugins in premiere pro.

Man... correcting someonelsses video is so cool. You can look at it from a totaly different point of view...

Re: Color Correction Help

btw. I highly recommend opening some color correcting program and changing all possible options in random way (even while doing something else like watching tv). It may seem stupid... I know :) But sometimes by accident you can create amazing effects you wouldn't even think about.

Plus it makes you feel you know all the functions of the program ;D

Re: Color Correction Help

Navitas - with your grades, my eye goes straight to the tableware and to the back of the guys shirt. The key subject gets lost in the flat area of the scene INMHO.

Re: Color Correction Help

Yeah... I was thinking only about colors...

Thanks for feetback. I will try to correct it and post some in meantime.

Re: Color Correction Help

Ok, I know I'm the resident amateur and noob round these parts, but heres my go at it.

I applied my blur filters to give shallower dof, and did some tricky things with fake lights and some opacity layering to achieve different colorization. Hope it don't suck too bad.

I have a hardon for "film look" so thats what I am always shooting for.

I took this as a sort of "happy/warm moment" in a dingy diner, so that is why it has a slight warmish feel but with a sort of green flourescant hue. Who knows it probably is crap :D

Here I Went ...

DVX_testcolor_shop.tiff

I did one of him in the restaurant..but I didn't really like it.

Anyways, that was fun and good practice.

Did most of you guys use filters? Or use just levels / wheels?

I did this with no filters. I think filters are cool, but I Want to know how to do everything without them.
