Color blocks in footage

Have any of you have gotten color blocks in your captured footage? they last a second and show up 5 or 6 times per tape, in my case. I shoot sd 24f and 60i with the same results. I followed some advices like cleaning my cam heads with a cleaning tape, switch tape brands wich i did but the problem did not go away, so I called Canon and they told me to send my camera for repairs, then after a week I got my camcorder back with a service paper saying that the service on my equipment have been completed, the service details says: "Realigned tape path, some older recordings may not play back properly, all new recordings will be normal."
Well I opened a brand new sony tape put it in my camcorder and i started rolling, after couple of minutes I captured the footage to my computer and play it in vegas to make sure the problem went away, guess what I still getting the color blocks, this is driving me crazy!!!!!. Call Canon right away and they are sending me a shipping label to send the camera back to them.
So my real question is :

Does any of you have an idea of what is causing these colors blocks?
Thanks

I've never seen any of those in my footage.

I'd do some tests to see where the problem is occurring from, and then contact the manufacturer.

Before you send your camera back, I would try to capture the footage on another computer, preferably with different software (FCP?). When you are troubleshooting something like this, it is best to eliminate variables. Your camera may be fine. Could be a software issue, bad firewire cable, who knows.

Try capturing somewhere else. If you have nowhere else to capture, send a tape to someone and let them capture it for you. If there are no blocks, you know your camera is fine.

Agree with Michael first up, as you never know, but to me this is dirty or clogged heads. Using the tape may simply not be enough for this one. I would get off the Sony tapes though, Ive never liked them much.

That was what other people had told me before, but the strange thing is that the technician did not perform any cleaning on the camcorder and they did not explained what is causing the color blocks, to me it looks that they don't have an idea of what it is.

I had the exact same problem. It showed up when I was kitting up a new computer system with two internal and three USB drives. Footage I knew was good developed single frame blocks when moved from one drive to another. Running chkdsk indicated that there were problems with files on disk.

My solution was to reformat the USB drives and replace the USB cables. I also removed a seven-port USB hub from the system. In the two months since, the problem has not returned.

Beware the cables. make sure that your USB and 1394 cables are high quality and in tip-top shape.

Thanks for your response, I never thought of that, I store my captured footage to a usb hd, I'm going to check my firewire cable as well after I get my camera back from the Canon factory

This is an update on the color blocks I was getting in my footage. After I received my camcorder from the Canon repair facility for the 2nd time they told me nothing was wrong with my camera but they still replace the drums and something else. I bought a new fire wire cable and since I have not seen the problem. In case you are having the same problem I had, remember to check your cables.
