Hi All,

I have a Pan 102AE(PAL) version camcorder & it can display a PAL color bar in both the EVF & flip-out LCD. However, I'm still not sure what this color bar is used for & how is it used to adjust the colors in the camcorder. I've searched in Google a few times, but their explaination on color bars & how to use it is not clear enough. Perhaps some of you good souls in this forum could enlighten me how to make use of the color bars in my DVX. Is the color bar used to calibrate the colors in both the 50i mode & 25p mode of shooting? Much thanks in advance.

Andrew,
Color bars are used as a referance signal.

You lay them to the head of each tape when you shoot. That way you can adjust the editing gear to the signal that teh camera makes. They (incorrectly) arn't used as much in the digital world) as the analog world where you had to calibrate the equipment every time you used it.

They are used the most nowadays to calibrate monitors so the colors look right there. Once a monitor has been adjusted to correctly show Bars, the it shodul show everything else correctly too - at least ath has been adjusted in referance to those bars.

Here's some good reading: http://www.cybercollege.com/tvp016-2.htm Be sure to hit the link in the text towards the bottom abotu how to set up a monitor too.
