Clunking sound

Just got my HVX today and am pumped to start playing with it. I am a converted FX1 guy. ANyway... the first thing I noticed when I took the camera out of the box is when you move the camera back and forth (front to back) it makes a "clunking" type sound in the lens area. Perhaps this is normal, just wanted to find out right away so I can send er back if it's a problem.

Thanks.

I notice the sound too, its probably some slider mechanism in the lens, doesnt seem to affect anything though

That "clunking sound" is the paperweight mechanism inside the HVX. Once a certain number of "clunks" have accumulated, the HVX is turned into a expensive paperweight. It is best not to tilt the camera and activate the paperweight mechanism.

Search "clunk" and you will set yourself up for hours of hilarious posts...and be happy that the mods have put an end to this kind of "fun."

When I'm bored I use it to create intricate rythms. But if you do it too much the hvx turns into a paper weight

Clung will disappear soon as you connect charged battery. It's got something to do with optical stabilizer in camera I think and it is not fault problem.

Maybe Jan C. can answer it??

Maybe Jan C. can answer it??

jokes asside : is it not better to store the HVX in the vertical position with the lens up? If you would store it horzontally in a carrying case like the portabrace dv4 and you walk the OIS moves back and forward the whole time during walking and eventually something will brake being the OIS or another moving part which makes that clunking sound.

Maybe there should make a "clunk" drinking game. Everytime someone asks about the clunk, everyone drinks!

We allready have one:

Every time any camera, anywhere, clunks, Horse has a drink.

- Mikko ... is not as think as you drunk he is.

One night, as little Jimmy was going to bed, he knelt and clasped his hands in prayer. "Oh god", he said, "Why does my HVX make a clunking noise?".... after a moment of silence, a deep booming voice replies, "because you touch yourself at night!"
