I just purchased the film cloverfield on blue ray and I must say i was blown away by how stunning the hvx looks on blue ray. I ve heard complaints that the hvx doesnt look good on blue ray but watching the movie they couldnt be more wrong. Does anyone know what is the best process to burn to blue ray to achieve similar results?

Is it just me, or has this been posted before?

Mind you, the HVX shot very very little of Cloverfield. The only scene done with it fully was the party scene.

Arguments about the aesthetic of Cloverfield aside, having a post house full of professionals is why the movie looks the way it does.

No one is going to be able to come on here and say "Set your bit-rate to xxxmbps and there you go."

and some say that the HVX has been used for almost all sequences exept the landscape views that have been filmed with bigger cameras (F23 and VIPER).

So, depending on the source, it'll say that most sequences are from the HVX...

A little prove: if you look at the photos from the Cloverfield-Set on IMDB, you'll always see the HVX as a camera in action...

What I think is more important: CAN YOU DISTINGUE only from a scene, which camera it has been filmed with? (Panasonic HSC1U, HVX, F23 or Viper)

For the set-photos or technical information, look here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/technical

Yeah, if it was up to some guys here they would say Cloverfield was shot with the HV20 just to deny the fact that most of it was shot with the HVX. Please wake up to reality.

Haha,

I love the reality note. Fact of the matter is that it was shot on CineAltas F23.

The viper was tested by the DOP and because it's green cast and the camera not cooperating with the sodium vapor lights.

Was the HVX used in the production? Yes. It shot the party scene fully. No doubt about it. The camera used on the production was sold on EBAY, it maintained less than two hours on the heads. :)

I am sure they used eithr 720p or 1080p for the movie on P2 so there are no "heads" involved in filming here. That is the reason I talk about reality, not much around here it seems. Please know a little more about a camera before posting.

Mate,

I've shot with an F900, and in the market for an F23. However, because of the 2/3 imaging sensors on the F23 I am waiting for the F35. Haven't used the Viper though. But I can tell you I have done extensive research into the high end cameras as that what we will be using on our upcoming film. I've looked into the Genesis, the F23, The F35, and the Viper.

The F23 records to a mounted digital recording unit too, it also has the availability to shoot on tape. It actually records 4:4:4 to the SRW-1 digital acquisition device. The SRW-1 will also be used with the 35.

The HVX was shot in the party scene, as interviews, and BTS show. The HVX also shot a lot of the unaffected point of view shots. However, the film makers decided to go with the F23 for any shot that was visually effected as it would give them more options in post.

The HVX was the original version of the camera, before the A made an appearance, so that means, not too great in the low light area. Which is a nightmare to deal with.

I do know more about these cameras than you think. John, I really love the fact you think you know more about this. I do, it's a great attitude to have. The HVX is a great camera. It serves many people and did help in the production of Cloverfield. But please, do not tell me I don't know about these cameras.
