If 1/2" DOF and industrial applications suit your needs then you should buy it. If you are looking for 35mm film quality both in terms of DOF and resolution, then you should NOT buy it. This camera is not comparable in any way to the RED camera.

Hey Zacc Oz,

At least you're thinking and comparing possibilities - a real good trait in the media production business. The KY-F560E has some interesting specs, but when you superimpose them over the RED specs (and price point) it's just not a horse race. That's not to say that the F560 may not be a good performer in it's intended use niche.

Thanks for thinking and thanks for contributing to the forum. I see the "Oz" at the end of your handle. If you're from Australia, I've spent large amounts of time doing production in Oz. Love it there! There's a lot of interest in RED in Oz. One of my longtime associates, based in Sydney, recently placed a reservation for a RED camera. The RED buzz has definately reached Oz.

Good on ya mate!

Yeah, through the late '80's, all of the '90's, and up to around 2002, I was on the road worldwide about 9 months of the year doing adventure travel, alternative sports, tourism, and documentary production. Over 60 countries, all continents, except Antarctica (which is on my "to do" list).

In some long production trips to Australia, I was on the crew that televised the ASP World Contest Tour surfing events in Victoria (Bells), New South Wales, and Queensland. While there, we also shot for many Australian national and provincial tourism entities. Can't wait to go back with my new RED camera and lay down some images in 1080p and 2k! Now that I have an associate in Sydney that has reserved a RED camera, we have the makings of a good 2-camera shoot in Oz.

The electronics inside KY-F560E are obsolete technology. The electronics inside the RED will be the most technologically advanced system ever created.
The exterior of the KY-F560E is cheap looking with exposed screws. The RED will have a beautiful and tough metal enclosure.

However, the concept is the same. Take a rectangular box with with some electronics, put a lens on it, and have it record moving images. In gestalt, the cameras are comparable.

Sorry... lost my head.
