C300: Clog 2/3 + Vlog

Hi guys

Curious if anyone has experience matching either Clog 2 or 3 with Vlog from the Gh5? It cuts surprisingly well with my C300 MKII in general, although I always find I can't quite get the colours to match 100%. I'll get about 90% of the way and then it becomes quite an ordeal.

Any suggestions? Has anyone developed custom LUTs for this, etc?

Thanks!

Sean

A generalized LUT doesn't exist. Someday when cameras can autocalibrate their color to a common standard, it will be much easier. You can match exposure, gamma, and basic color using the scopes + various tools (curves, wheels, etc.). Then fix non-linear issues with secondary correction and/or masked selections and/or qualifiers. In the past I've matched the GH4 to Sony A7x/FS700, and A7x to various Canon DSLRs and the C300 II: I'd expect you'd be able to match the C300 II and the GH5 fairly closely.

Shooting color charts can also be helpful. Lots more info here: https://www.google.com/search?q=matching+two+cameras&oq=matching+two+cameras

You can use the Color Space Transform OFX plugin in DaVinci Resolve to translate from one camera to the other. Or you can go from Canon to let's say Alexa and from Panasonic to Alexa, ending up with both cameras in that gamut and gamma, and then take it from there.

The Color Space Transform is included in the Studio version of Resolve, but probably isn't in the free version. Then again, Resolve Studio is only $299 so.... And I'm not sure how Blackmagic does it, but if you buy the Studio version for Resolve 15, you tend to be able to upgrade to R16, R17, R18.... and so on with the same license.

A sound investment, if you ask me.

If you have to short clips that look similar enough that you expect them to cut together and want to see what the transform does, give me links and I'll run the clips through it later on.

Thanks Andree, that makes sense. I was considering the Alexa approach. Do you have any experience with the Emotive Color/GHAlex LUTs? I considered using this and then Clog2 --> Arri Rec709 might be a good match.
