Not affiliated with the company, but ClipWrap 2 is out at $49.95

It will convert 40 and 150 footage to DV, DVCProHD, pro res, pro res HQ, and AIC quickly.

Also will rewrap to h.264 QT without altering the footage. That is PDQ.

Also to Avid DNxHD if installed.

Not yet compatible with GH1 stuff.

Trial version.

3 camera angles to transcode... I am going to try this out! If I can save transcoding time I will be very happy.

Bummer... When wrapped with MOV it will go into FCP but wont playback smoothly (at least with 720/60p)... just like it works on a slower PC/Vegas w/ native mts. Any ideas?

Although, its very quick to wrap the files!

Update: I think it does work after you render!

Remember a rewrap without altering footage produces a highly compressed h.264 file. Not meant to edit with.

Best to transcode. Slower, but not that bad.

Doesn't work with my 720p footage. 50 fps (PAL) are not correctly detected (shows 15 fps) and NTSC shows only garbage.

Anyone know if this properly joins long HMC clips, without issues/artifacts at 4GB splits?

from the web site:

Automatically recombines spanned files
If your direct to disk recorder splits files every 4GB, ClipWrap automatically detects these spanned clips and will recombine them into a single seamless QuickTime movie.

Hey all,

Thought I'd chime in with some answers to folks questions.

ullanta - ClipWrap does not currently span mts clips - thats a feature we have for m2t only right now (the problem is that most cameras number mts files sequentially, so it mucks with our existing algorithm - we plan to turn it back on once we have a better system in place for marking what should and shouldn't be spanned).

pailes - two questions, you say it reports 15fps - is that in CW or in QTPlayer? Do you have Perian installed, there is a bug where it is decoding these movies improperly, apple's codec does not have the same problem.

MadHMC150 - playback of the rewraps will be jerky on all but the newest macs, however a few things to check: FCP seems to playback best, followed by QTPlayer 7, and finally QTplayer 10... QTPlayer 10 is especially droppy on machines with hardware acceleration like mac book pros and newer iMacs. We are still gathering info on this to report to apple.

I'll be in and out of the forums this week, please let me know if anyone else has any additional questions. I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks for chiming in Mike,

Using a fairly new MBP 2.4 duo and 4gb ram....

I need to do some more testing but the fact of rewraping shouldn't degrade the quality will it? My thoughts would be its never been converted to anything so it should be very close to original. I used QT and the 1st run though was fine and then it got pretty choppy on more then 1 play. FCP was choppy also.

Thanks Mike! Please keep us informed on this... it'll be a no-brainer for some of my workflows as soon as it handles long clips cleanly!

LOL, I was just about to "break" this news. Mike, how would ClipWrap2 work on a G5 or Intel Mac Mini?

Nate I did a wrap on a 1080/24p clip. The wrap itself was fast but the movie would barely play in QT7.Also just tried 720/24p. Rewrap was fast but I could only get about 15fps in QT7. This on a G5 dual 2ghz with 2.5GB of RAM.

Seems like a very nifty tool. I think I'll stick with injesting with FCP but I can imagine this tool will be wanted by many people.

It says so right in CW.

Do you have Perian installed, there is a bug where it is decoding these movies improperly, apple's codec does not have the same problem.
Yes I do have perian installed. Is the perian AVC decoder chosen over the internal QT AVC decoder when trying to play H.264 encoded movies?

Errrrr.... I'm pissed AVCHD2HQ wont work now that my trial is over for edius... Proxy stream is taking over an hour for 6 minutes of video.... Update: It worked its way up to over 2 hours...

So Super you wrap and edit the footage without any problems with previewing? I also lowered my preview settings to draft in FCP and it made things little better.

AND this sync software looks very promising!

I don't have it yet, but for straight cuts with no color correction it should be ok... it should work a lot like editing 5Dmk2 stuff. And yes that plural eyes software works good (you can get a full working trial for 30 days)

Super... this really isn't working well at all... Maybe its the audio I have but its 2 camera angles form a live concert... audio is audible in both and it doesn't work. It says they are synced but they really are off quite a bit.

I tried long and short segments too..
