ClipHouse: Potentially great Batch RAW converter; almost works with 7Q CinemaDNG

I just tried Pomfort ClipHouse and it has a lot of potential for 7Q RAW sequences.

It's a pretty cool RAW converter that does BATCH export to ProRes. It ALMOST works with 7Q Cinema DNG files in that the colors are somewhat in the ballpark (but almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades), but much closer than Adobe's RAW support where the colors are super off. The obvious reason is because 7Q Cinema DNG RAW is not officially supported by ClipHouse.

Unlike Resolve, ClipHouse can run on older Mac that don't have GPU graphics cards. My generation one 8 core Mac cannot run Resolve. Plus, the Batch renderer seems really good. I ran through six 7Q RAW clips and the Batch processor converted them to ProRes 4:4:4 really quickly and without breaking a sweat. The interface is very intuitive and easy. But like I mentioned, the colors are off right now because the 7Q is not officially supported.

The support at Pomfort asked me to pass them some 7Q Cinema DNG sequences, which I did so hopefully they can support us soon. Maybe if some of you guys write them and express interest, it can be coded even faster.

Hey Mitch, I passed Pomfort your email, but if you would like to reach out to them, they seem really cool and helpful.

This is interesting, i've been looking at RAW workflows. Ideally i want to convert the RAW into 2K Log encoded footage so i can use it in post (the cinema RAW route is very unsupported with most of my applications). Do you know whether this will offer a Linear to Log encoding? I've emailed them and may download a sample but just in case you already know!?

Here's something to think about with ClipHouse. I exported the exact same 13 second RAW clip from After Effects vs. ClipHouse. After Effects took about 6 minutes to export (Drop in timeline then export) a Pro-Res 4:4:4 clip.

Cliphouse took 13 seconds! YES, 13 seconds (Cliphouse) Vs. 6 Minutes from After Effects. And I know I'm doing it right as AE has been my bread and butter for 15 long years. Cliphouse is blazing fast. In defense of AE though, it's really not design as a file conversion program, but as a compositing and color program, and I'm sure Cliphouse is optimized for RAW conversion. Still, it's about 26x faster than AE.

Now if we can only get the colors right in Cliphouse. They're close, but not quite there.

If someone can verify since I cannot run Resolve, how long does it take Resolve to render the same clip vs. After Effects? Is it much faster?

Resolve 10 and Cliphouse both use the GPU to debayer, so 1:1 is possible with a compatible graphiccard. More important is the image quality of the rendered Clips, so Davinci (include synced audio) is the best solution for me at the moment in terms of Detail, but a direct comparison would be interesting!

I'm not sure ClipHouse uses GPU because that's the reason I cannot use Resolve because my ancient graphic card does not have GPU (I could be wrong), plus my Mac is 32 bit, not 64 bit. I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and get a new iMac (all I can afford).

As for IQ, Cliphouse's PP is not coded for the 7Q DNGs, so the colors and contrast are definitely off.
