GH4 Cleaning the lens from paint?

Hello, I need help. I have no ND filters to protect the lens (big mistake), anyway the problem is I got paint on the 25mm leica, what is the wisest way to clean it , is it possible at all? its not all covered, there are tiny spray spots.

Anyway is there a life hack of some sorts to get paint off a lens?

First thing I would try is order some Pec*Pads and Eclipse cleaning fluid from amazon.com (B&H cannot ship the Eclipse fluid). Moisten a Pec*Pad with the Eclipse cleaning solution and begin wiping at one spot (preferably near the edge). The Eclipse fluid will not harm your lens coating (do not apply directly to the lens!) but excessive pressure may.

If that does not help find out what kind of paint was used and what solvents may work on it. Again use the Pec*Pad moistened sparingly with the solvent.

Order the 100 count package of Pec*Pads, they are the best lens cleaning wipes available. Eclipse cleaning fluid is about the purest alcohol you can buy. The combination of the two are the safest way to clean a lens of ordinary greasy fingerprints.

Does it even work after a week or so, because it usually takes a long time till stuff arrives from USA? (I don´t live in the States.)

Also thanks for helpful advice!

I have no idea, it's already been 3 or 4 days, right?

One thing I'd be tempted to try is to wash hands very clean, dry thoroughly. Then see if you can move one of the paint specks with a clean thumbnail, pushing from the side. If you can do that, lift it off with a clean piece of linen or cotton and inspect the lens coating with an 8X magnifying loupe to see if there is any damage.

If that works, proceed slowly with other spots.

Good luck.

Get yourself a set of good protective multilayer coated filters so you have something you can put on a lens in any kind of hazardous environment.

I know acetone will do it. Aka nailpolish remover, and some q-tips. But I don't know if it would effect the coatings on the lens or not.

If not that, then you might be able to get 99% isopropyl (isopropanol) alcohol at the drug store/pharmacy/chemist or a walmart.

Wow.. the thumbnail advice worked with my glasses perfectly. (My glasses got hit with the industrial paint as well.) Tonight Im going to try it with the lens as well.

Should work with the lens, then. The idea is to gently move/slide each spot a bit so that it either "flakes off" or can be lifted off. Go slow and gentle.

Never apply ANY FLUID directly to the lens, always moisten a wipe, soft cloth patch, microfiber cloth, or Q-Tip with it first.

Good luck.
