"clean" weekend project @ vimeo with AF101/Voigtländer

Weekend Project - SoundCloud Inspiration @ vimeo

I had my AF101 on the Manfrotto 504/546 tripod and also made use of my skate dolly for a couple of shots.

Settings on the AF101:

Detail: -7
V Detail: -7
Coring: -2
Chroma: -5
Gamma: Cinelike V
Matrix: Norm1

1080p25 and most of the shots are with the Voigtländer at 0.95.

Nice - only shot missing was the reverse (inside the washing machine)... LOL. Wonder if the AF101 and the Voigtlander would have survived... maybe the VL - it's built like a mini-tank!

That would be the quality glass difference showing ( wink)

I have that lens, Shooter. It is my favorite and pretty much primary go to lens. I agree it is great. My point before was that for under 1k you can get this amazing glass which visually, aside from witness marks, is pretty identical to cinema grade glass. The Voightlander doesn't even really breathe. It is f0.95! It IS sharp! And amazing!

The reason I asked if he applied sharpening in post was because both of his detail settings were -7.

Actually I didn't do any grading and no sharpening. I find lenses like the Voigtländer to be so sharp on their own and adding detail in camera only makes it look harsh.

Great shots, editman,

still I wonder how to go about with the coring.

Is it that with detail set to lowest, the coring would produce problems if not set to low too?

I am a bit befuddled about coring because I do not really understand what is about and my Barry Green Book has not yet arrived here.

Coring is a noise reducer. It smears the image and thus making noise smoother. When using Cinelike V and all matrixes except Cine you don't have much noise. Noise and 8-bit banding goes hand in hand. Making it to smooth/noisefree and you might run into banding. So a little bit of noise helps to avoid excessive banding. This camera has alot of sharpness/detail when set at 0. It also has alot of chroma when sat at 0. Having detail low also makes noise smoother so there's little need to have coring high or even at normal.

My findings with regards to the AF camera is to balance settings to make it as artefact free as possible. Sometimes you want added sharpness or a flatter image but Cinelike V/Norm1 is to me a good combination.

Not only clean, but a nice... wash of light! (sorry, didn't mean to agitate or spin too much, but I guess this post has gone through all its cycles, except for a really dry comment...)

But (semi) seriously- are these your 5D settings?

And glad you got the reservation system before it was gone, it's a nice setup to the rest.

This video is not with my 5D mkII scene file but it's with my standard "clean" profile. I wasn't after warm tones but rather pure white and a good exposure and to try the Voigtländer lens. I've already ordered a 50/1.1 so I'm a bit hooked on the fast Voigtländers.
