Clean, Clear Slow Motion?

Yes thanks for the advice. I'm still learning the differences among 24p, 60i and 30p. Since I have a DVC60, and plan to still rent a DVX as second cam, I will definitely use 30p as the shooting mode.

However, for the wedding I've already shot in 24p, what can be done to get clean slo-mo?

Now in looking at some of the slow-mo scenes, they are jerky. Again, this only occurred in some of the scenes. The ones that are jerky were slowed to 40%, but there are scenes on other 24p timelines that were also slowed to 40% and look just fine.

Most likely it is because your footage has more action or less action in it. Or because your camera movements are faster or slower from scene to scene. If you have a video with no motion you can slow it down to 1% with no adverse efects. I rarely slow down 24p or 30p footage less than 60-70%.

To answer your other question. If your get great footage with your 1ccd consumer camera and you buy a prosumer 3ccd and your footage looks like crap 1/2 the time it's because there is a huge learnig curve any time you get more advanced gear. The cheapo consumer cameras try to give good footage most of the time by setting everything on Auto and they limit what you can do manually. Likewise if you master a prosumer cam your ability to achieve great footage increases exponentially and your ability to achieve artistic footage is not hindered by the limitation a cheap 1ccd cam has.

You're right about the change from 1ccd to 3ccd. I used to use auto-everything except focus on my 1ccd cam, and it's quite light. The time I rented the DVX it took until the reception for me to get a good feel for its heaviness and all. What helped as far as functionality was that I had already read the "basic set-up" thread on this site--basically putting all settings on the DVX at neutral ... nothing too fancy just yet. BUT, I tried to be slick by using 24p and now I'm paying for it. I will try slowing the footage to 60% instead of 40% and hopefully that will help.

AE is on my list of "needed equipment" but I need to finish this wedding video before trying to buy anything else.

Thanks again ...
