"Classified" - Elton & Charli Production

Got a big prop secured. It was the last of the major hurdles. :)

Welcome boulder! Can't wait to work with you--

Today we finish getting our props and finalizing some shot list ideas. Composer is inspired and working on some pre-score stuff, carpentry work is completed, filming begins tomorrow.

Charlie. Do you have a hand in directing this? If not, what are your thoughts about letting go of your writing and leaving it in the hands of a director that will most likely have a different interpretation? Is that something that bothers you? I'm not a writer but I can imagine that it must be hard. Everyone has thier own vision including directors, that's what they do. But it must be hard to have your own vision of the story and then see it produced in a form that wasn't what you imagined. It must be hard for a writer sometimes. Is it for you?

//On that end, do you have any directing aspirations? It would seem to me that writing and directing would go hand in hand.
In order to see the story told they way you wrote it, hopefully.

Gordy - I had my own hvx camera and gear. Had to sell everything right before my directorial debut (due to autoimmune thyroid disorder) in Santa Cruz (even secured locations such as the Pier and Private Harbor - plus I had friends who owned 32ft & 36 ft Catalinas, those boats would have been nice addition). So my directorial aspirations had to take a back seat. With Elton we can discuss shots, but he is the director. We only discussed a few shots this time round because of time constraint.

As a PRODUCER I was able to pull off things that Elton was exceedingly proud of. While I have to let go the translation of the script to film to a director, it's not always easy, but playing part of a "producer" and making a difference, there's a lot of fun in that. So I lose one hat and trade it for another. My time will come, Gordy, when my sickness is in full recovery and we're back on our feet, I'll grab some folks with equipment and direct a thing or two. Just not my time yet.

Charli has been amazing to work with. We sometimes disagree, but we usually find a way to get on the same page. I really appreciate all her hard work.

Without further ado...some grabs from today's shoot. :)

'66 Chevy Impala - sweet guy who allowed us to use his car for $1. More filming today. Some editing yesterday.

A 'Sticky Pod' style rig. The CU's are me riding in the back seat with a steadytracker stabilizer.

Those screen grabs look very nice. Last thing I remember you doing is Black Angel...have you done anything since then?

Jaime - wow, you have a great memory. Yes, I did work on a spyfest short "Birds of Prey" now known as "Agent Raven" which is now 3 years in post production. Completely shot but we've yet to edit it. That's another project I did with Elton. I also co-wrote "Monsters Beware" for the MonsterFest. I helped a student filmmaker with a short for his class project. Wrote the first episode to a webisdoe series (for hire) but they decided to go another way, hey I got paid $160, so it's cool with me. I had a friend here ask me to write an animation short which he no longer has time with but it's really good enough to sell, so I'm going to market that. And I wrote two projects for dvxuser memebers who were unable to get their shorts off the ground due to whatever reason.

I now don't write for free (except for friends) and will be putting another ad up soon with a better turn-around time for shorts. I currently put in samples to write short skits on Craigslist. So I keep putting myself out there.

Now that you mention it, I did see your Birds of Prey short, but I missed out on MonsterFest in it's entirety so I didn't see any films from that.

Black Angel probably sticks in my mind more as it was during my first entry here at dvxuser and my first time filming anything ever :p

Sounds like you certainly keep busy! Good luck and looking forward to seeing this one :)

Birds of Prey I think we had still shots, but the short never came out. So you started same fest I did, that's cool. I hope you like this film. More filming today by this afternoon, we'll see what grabs Elton puts up.

Hmm maybe I'm just remembering your thread then. I guess my memory isn't as good as you give me credit for :) But I definitely remember Black Angel!!

Good luck on your shoot today.
