Hello!

I have now finished the music video that I have been working on for almost a month.

I did this video alone, everything from getting amps and equipment, getting permits to composting the VFX.

The budget was almost nothing. An underwater bag for the camera (wich I will have a lot of use for in the future) and a roll of duct tape.

Time spent on this video:

preproduction: 1 week

shooting: 5 hours

editing: 15 hours

VFX: ~60 hours.

The reason for the video was to make as high production value as possible.
Make it seem like a record label has been pumping in money to premote them.
And of course make it visual good looking.

And for me personally I wanted something to put in my showreel that stands out a little so I hopefully can get paid someday:-Dum(DBG):

Outstanding.

Can you elaborate, on lenses used, waht you used for editing, post processing etc.. sound recording?

This seriously blows me away.

Thank you!

this is what i used:

A nikon D90 with a 18-105mm lens. An underwater plastic bag for shooting under water. Sound recording from the camera and then synced with the song on wav.

I edited it in adobe premiere cs3. Just the cuts. then I imported it to after effects where all the effect were applied. And then I color corrected everything to blend the effects with the footage.

That's great work! I was wondering if it might be good to add some grain to hide the compression artifacts especially with this kind of video?

Intresting idea! I haven't thought about that actually. Maybe I should try it on a little part and render it and see how it turns out!

Thanks for the tip!

really nice... colour and composition looks amazing. Only thing I don't really like are the special fx.... but that is just personal taste.

Maybe, maybe not.
I thought the VFX made the video less boring to watch, visually.
Just to get the feeling that something is happening and developes around them when the fire and the explosions are escalating more and more.

Thanks for watching, I appreciate your opinion!

That's what makes it is personal taste, you like it, I don't ;)

.... my opinion on this applies to most, if not all, music videos with CGI special fx... even ones with crazy budgets.... you look back on them in 2-3 years and they looked dated. That is just the nature of CGI.

If you can make a music video without CGI, it stands a better chance of still looking fresh as time goes by.

I agree, but only to a certain extent. "Dated" musn´t be bad. If it is well done even older fx/cgi can still be good. Take a look at one of the early a-ha videos "Take on me":
http://www.myvideo.de/watch/5636250/A_Ha_Take_On_Me. It´s from 1985.

Or watch some older james bond intros - here from 1995 "golden eye":

So quality can possibly be old, but still amazing ;-)

I think Everything can be sorted into epochs on the long time line. And when you look back to it you might think it's charming, cool or ugly. Just like fashion:

The youtube era
"This is the time when the technology had come so far that regular people could make their own CGI at home. Wich explains the quality" :)

I think CGI has to be absolutely perfect and original to stand the test of time...

I don't think many people would pick apart the CGI anyway, it is just that I work in that industry and I guess it loses some magic when you know how it is done.

But this is going off topic, the video is superb and makes me want to rebuy a D90...
