Cineroid EVF came! Initial thoughts with GH2.

Benn,
I will try an confirm with Cineform Korea and let you know when I get the answer from them

Thanks.

Johnnie

My Cineroid EVF from Abelcine came with a great, short right angled mini to mini HDMI -

It also came with a great carrying case! What a bonus, who gives away free carrying cases these days?!!!

What a great company, I'm in love!!!!!!

For me the decision was very simple.
I am used to work "ENG style" and I need a good viewfinder stuck in my eye....
There are others who are used to work with an attached monitor.

According to your working style choose Cineroid or a monitor.

Thanks.

Johnnie

Hi guys.
Been absent from the board a few days....
I'm not sure where the misinformation started from but we've always included the mini-HDMI cable. The right-angle cable comes along with a mini-shoe mount adapter, along with a battery and charger and the handy carrying case!

@mikecazzx: you're welcome and it's a bit more than $2. :) if you can get this cable for $2 let me know where and i'll buy from them!

Faulty software?

Faulty software?

Hi guys,
I was watching C5D's 'Quick Take' on the Cineroid and some guy made many negative comments about the EVF:
One in particular is where he said Cineroid is recalling all their EVFs due to a technical fault with the software: http://vimeo.com/18355034

He made these comments early January. Can anyone confirm this faulty software claim??

I don't know anything about that claim, but "cineroid" works for the company and can certainly give you the definitive answer.

Hi Ed.
Thanks for pointing out the comments on the vimeo page. Unfortunately, the comments made by Mr. Steve Howe regarding the software bug of the pixel centering is accurate. We noticed the bug after the first production batch were shipped out. That was our mistake. We have since corrected the software bug and all is in working order. I'm not sure who his supplier is, but no units were ever recalled in the US nor were any resellers in the US told as such. I know because I am in charge of the US distribution. Regarding the battery, yes it is a bit stiff (and it's been mentioned before on this dvxuser earlier in this thread, I believe) but honestly, it's not a problem. Just grab and pull. :) Mr. Howe also mentioned that he wasn't able to pull the lever to separate the loupe "in practice." All I can say to that is, I have no problems doing so with just my nails and neither have other users. The lever is short, so if your nails are short then you might need a tool to move the lever.

All in all, it's not a perfect device and we never claimed it to be as such. We are constantly taking feedback from our customers and users in the field (from top Hollywood DP's, freelance shooters, and semi-pro and amateur shooters) to improve our product. Other professionals in the field have provided positive comments about our EVF but I'm also sure that not everybody will have the same sentiments. We can only strive to continue to better our product and hope that users in the field will find it to be useful.

Thank you for your support and patience, everyone. We are a work in progress.

And thanks for moderating, Barry. :)

I just received my Cineroid from Abel Cine and am very impressed. My only issue is that I would also like to use it on my HVX200, which requires using composite in.

However I can't seem to find a way to unsqueeze the image on the Cineroid screen (I'm shooting 720/24pn). Any advice?

I guess people from Cienroid follow this thread so I decided to post a small request:

We are shooting a lot with anamorphic Lomos and anamorphic attachments. So would it be possible to add a feature for de-squeezing the image to 2.35 or other custom ratios? That would totally buy us and we would order straight away 300 units... ok... 3 units :)

thanks in advance,

koji

10" monitor seemed too big. DP-6 looked quite nice... but the price tag $899... Haha. Cineroid EVF is looking good. Prolly the best option for ENG style. What a fantastic product. The vdslr ENG style is getting pretty cool.

Yeah, but can you unsqueeze the image when using composite in? Still want an answer...

I htought this question was already asked and it was implied that it can not. But future versions might have that update.

Hi there. Hope you can help Joseph. My Cineroid just arrived this morning for my Af101. I am a little confused about to set the Zebra bars. I usually set the bars for 90%. I don't need underexposure bars, just the overexposure bars. Do you know how I can so this please. The 50-100 setting on the VF seem to be the wrong way around - i.e 50 seems to represent 100% exposure and 100 - 50%. Many thanks.
Oh and just to confirm, I don't think it's possible to do focus and zebras at the same time? Thanks, Sparky
