Cineroid EVF came! Initial thoughts with GH2.

Hi all... new here... been lurking for a while now...

been really excited about the cineroid for a while now...
just wanted to know if there's any lag on the monitors with the loop through when recording...

has anyone tried it on the 5D?

Hello phosumpro.
Thank you for your interest in Cineroid.
Yes, we have tried the loop through when recording on the 5D and there is a very slight lag that is not very noticeable unless you are doing fast moves/pans with the camera. The EVF was used in a promo shoot recently with the loop out going to a HDMI splitter that fed the image to two separate monitors. Worked great.

Hello Hunter,
sorry I am curious, are you furthermore happy with the cineroid?
Thanks Benn

Overall yes- Im using a long Israeli arm to hold it so I can shoot shoulder mount easily. Though maybe I could prefer a hard rod mount solution like what zacuto made for the red evf.

Im having trouble calibrating the colors on it though, its close but I think it could be closer- blacks and whites seem a little clipped and its a little more yellow than it should be- but other than that what can I really compare it too? It gets the camera from out infront of my face and gives me a real evf to put my eye in (not the same experience as just looking at an lcd IMO)

The thing I still like the most is peaking- makes it so easy to tell whats in focus even when I tried it on a 5dm2, it helped.

Thanks Hunter, that important for me to make a final decision. I have a zacuto Zfinder as well and Zacuto will come out with a similar monitor at the beginning of february. Probably I will wait and see what kind of offer they can make for zfinder user.

Hello phosumpro.
Thank you for your interest in Cineroid.

Hi Cineroid (Hunter - sorry to thread hijack - but it's just a quick question)... I presume there's no A/R switches in the menu functions on the 'Roid, but is there the abilty to change this or add new firmware at a later date?

Basically, I'm involved in a few Anamorphic projects this year and it would be nice to look at a correctly squeezed image in the EVF.

Thanks.

I asked cineroid about this specifically (anamorphic options) Not sure if it can be firmware upgraded, maybe Joseph from cineroid can tell? It would be great to have custom zoom/desqueeze/crop like the small HD.

Yes - I'd even (gulp) pay a bit more for a V2 with added features for anamorphic work. I haven't got a SmallHD yet so I don't know if I can get the zoom/crop/desqueeze to get my Ana's looking peachy :)

Still using Marshalls and 24"JVC's for critical/on-set but that's using sphericals (and Century wide magnifiers for Ana tests - but this is a bit of a gaffa tape bodge/lash up as they weren't designed for current flip out lcds), but a few new projects have a kit allowance, so it's time to assess what's around.

Maybe more user interest in enhanced options for image manipulation would be helpful in getting Cineroid thinking about an update. Here's hoping

All suggestions are noted. We take all feedback from shooters seriously. We are working on adding additional features to really help increase the on-the-field usage of the EVF as much as possible. I will keep you posted on developments as we go along. Thanks guys!

Great - thanks for the reply. I'm sure image options (more specifically, as Ryan said, squeeze/crop/zoom) would be useful not just for scope filming but would also extend the user base (Red/Sony etc).

Joseph: What is current availability... I ordered one from Hot Rod several days ago and have not received confirmation of the order (that usually happens within seconds) although I did get a call from Paypal to confirm the charge to my card... I'm not in a hurry, just want to be sure the units are available...

Hi Mac. I'm sure you'll hear from Hot Rod. Don't worry. As far as availability is concerned, I'm not too sure. He had units in stock last I checked but that was last week.

I just recieved a Cineroid from Abelcine - whoah, blazing fast, less than 24 hrs. after I ordered online.

It's incredible, I'm in love instantly. Focus peaking is very well designed, far better than the Marshall equivalent. Man it's good!!!!
Unfortunately I have a single dead pixel on my panel - but I don't even care it's so good!

An as a bonus there's an analog option - stereo/video cable in !!!! I can monitor my old DVX andro with it!!!

Dear Benn. I am not Joseph or Cineroid but the kit should come with a mini to mini HDMI cable. Unless something has changed in the last few days...) In fact the next shipment should as far as I know come with a "L shaped mini cable" to assure better and safer connectivity.

Thank you.

Johnnie

Thanks for that information Johnnie - according to the price list they want to have 32 € for the single HDMI cable:Drogar-Thinking(DBG
